2 Leeteuk was deeply engrossed in thoughts as he strolled down towards the kitchen. For the last hours he had been studying the old books his father had left him years ago, most of them about the history and blood-relationships of the powerfuls.
He had locked himself in his working room to do so but he had found what he had been searching for, and it wasn't nice, just like he remembered.
The chairs around the kitchen table where already fully occupied as he entered. The looks he got varied between nervous, expectant and curious.
"So what's up?" asked Heechul, as soon as Leeteuk was seated between Kangin and Sungmin, who had somehow found a way out of his room without being killed.
"How is he?" Leeteuk asked, without responding to Heechul's question, throwing a glance towards Ryeowook.
The young boy frowned. "As can be expected due to the circumstances. He woke up at least two times, slightly distressed and disorientated, as if looking for something before falling back down."
His gaze lifted from his cup towards Leeteuk, concern written all over his face.
"That's not normal right?"
"Perhaps in his case it is," murmured Leetuek, earning questionable looks all over again.
"Just spill it already, Teukie," muttered Eunhyunk, looking slightly irritated. "You know something for sure."
Leeteuk sighed deeply before nodding his head.
"So..?" Heechul started tapping his fingers against the wooden table, clearly showing his impatience.
"Ruling family"
The term was enough to cause the room to fall into a dead silence with the temperature dropping a few degrees.
"I'm sure all of you remember this term."
Leeteuk looked round. All wolves were staring at him. Pure hate and anger was displayed on Heechul's and Kangin's faces, fear and distrust on the younger ones. Just two simple words were enough to arouse all these emotions.
Ruling family.
The reason why they were all grouped in Seoul, far away from their homes, other packs and family; the reason they all left or were scared away by their own friends and followers.
Ruling family.
They are the head of all wolves in South Korea and live as far north as possible. They reigned with an unstoppable brutality and force every single one of them has experienced.
"What is with this eyesore of society?" hissed Heechul, ears flat against his hair. His eyes changed into a sparking yellow as anger and hate swirled behind them.
Leeteuk ran his hand through his hair. He hated to say it out load, knowing exactly what feelings the others bore towards this topic, but he had to.
"You see.." He met the looks of his wolf followers.
"Yesung seems to be the next in line to take charge of the throne; the son of the current sovereign."
The truth was out.
The silence was back.
Utter disbelief was showing on all the faces turned towards him.
Yeah, he didn't want to believe it himself.
"Where....Why? How do you know it?" whispered Sumgmin, eyes wide in shock. "Surely he hadn't told you." Leeteuk shook his head ever so slightly, eyes pointing downwards.
"The emblem," he choked. "He's wearing the emblem of the royal blood on his shoulder blade."
The other wolves where just staring; if there was the emblem then there was no doubt about his origin as the royal family are the only ones privileged to wear this sign.
"But ...how?" Donghae muttered finally confusion showing on his face. "I mean, the castle is in the north right? Why should the ruler's son come down to Seoul where no official pack currently is living? Why was he attacked at all when he's the king's son? Why..? What is he doing here?"
The young wolf all but spluttered, saying what everyone was thinking, clearly showing his irritation.
"Fleeing," was the short response from Leeteuk
"Fleeing?" asked Sungmin, doubting. "Why should he do so? It's his home up there, his family; why should he run away?"
"You saw the scars?" Leeteuk asked finally, eyes narrowed in concern at the thought of the two parallel lines on Yesung's back crossing through his family mark.
"Yeah, two of them," murmured Eunhyunk, "straight through the emblem."
"See." sighed Leeteuk.
"It's the sign of a betrayer."
Kangins eyes widened at that. "Your're not serious; right? This method of marking has been forbidden for years."
Leeteuk smiled cruelly. "Believe me when I say it is. Not everything going on up there is right and legal. They made the rules, remember, so they can break them. I was there once and it was no fun."
The experience from his two month in the castle were still hunting his dreams, leaving him sleepless at least every other night.
The younger ones were looking at him with big eyes.
"Leeteuk?" Ryeowook finally asked, looking up at him with shy eyes. "What is this marking?"
The oldest one looked down at him, looking sad and tired all of a sudden.
"It's an ancient rite of the royal houses. You know that the emblem marks you as a higher one, right? It gains you respect and esteem everywhere you go. Its your ticket for the high class.
But when you betray your own kind or family you don't deserve this mark anymore. That's their way of thinking. To show everyone your betrayal they split this coat of arms with a hot blade."
Sungmin let out a wimpered cry as Ryeowook started shaking. Leeteuk looked sadly at the two youngest. "But I've never seen someone beeing marked two times; I've only heard it from my father's stories and written reports."
"What's the difference?" whispered Heechul, hate totally vanished from his eyes as he stared out of the kitchen towards the bedrooms where the new wolf was resting.
"Between one mark and two, I mean?"
"With the second mark you're no longer standing under the security of your family and royalty. You're just like any stray wolf. If you get out of the castle alive, you better run. You can do what you want but they can do what they want to you as well. Wolfshead, outlawry, open season, call it what you want."
Eunhyunk swallowed. "So in short," he started. "They want to kill him off," finished Donghae with an appalled expression.
"Probably," growled Kangin. "We don't know anything of this order because we don't have any contacts, but I think so."
"He can stay; right?" Ryeowook asked quickly, panic clearly heard in his voice.
"I mean, where should he go but here?"
Leeteuk sighed. "We'll have to convince him, show him proof that we didn't mean any harm to him and we'll see what we can do. We have to tell the others, nonetheless. This situation affects them too."
He buried his head into his hands, exhaling slowly before looking up.
"Alright then lets wait till the others arrive, then we can discuss everything else."
With that he stood up, ending their meeting as everyone fell into silent conversations, not able to hide their concern expressions.
A loud thud and the crashing of a door being closed made them all jump a little while later.
Leeteuk instantly hurried from the kitchen towards the corridor which lay behind the living room and where the noise came from; what he saw made him stand still.
He had to smile slyly at the picture in front of him.
The young wolf was crouched on the ground, clad in Kangin's big sweatpants and shirt, trying with panic in his eyes to demolish the scattered pieces of a broken vase on the ground while his other hand was rubbing his sore head.
"You should have stayed in bed," growled Kangin as Sungmin crouched down to help with the broken fragments.
Noticing the other wolves the raven haired wolf looked up, an embarrassed whimper leaving his throat. "I'm sorry," he said as his cheeks turned a light red.
"It's alright," laughed Donghae. "You don't want to know what I've already smashed in this house." Reaching out he helped Yesung back onto his feed, supporting him carefully to relieve pressure his wounded leg..
"What do you originally want?"
But before the young wolf could answer, if he had even planed on doing so, an loud growl escaped his stomach region, causing an even darker shade of red to stain his cheeks and creep over both ears.
Leeteuk let out a loud laugh.
"Alright," his voice muffled in Kangin's shirt. "Come with to the kitchen, perhaps we'll find something edible."
Heechul was snickering softly from his place in the door frame. "He's a klutz," he said laughing and Kangin smiled lightly. "That's going to be fun."
Kneeling down, they helped Sungmin clean up before turning towards the kitchen again, where Leeteuk had placed Yesung in a chair and was bustling around him.
"He found a new prey," smiled Ryeowook, relief clearly evident in his voice earning him a raised eyebrow from Heechul. "You don't like being pampered?"
"I have born it one and a half years; that's enough, don't you thing?"
Heechul smirked, "Let's play it save, ok?" Winking back at Ryeowook he let himself plop down next to Yesung who unconscious crawled back a few centimetres from Heechul's grinning face.
"So Sungie~" He started off, chin rested on his hands.
"How old are you?" He wiggled his eyebrowns while playing with one long strand of red hair, watching Leeteuk out of the corner of his eye, making sure he heard their full conversation.
"Nineteen," was the mumbled replay and Heechul's smirk widened, knowing young wolves continued growing until they turned twenty one.
"Nineteen? So, your wolfform isn't finished right?" Yesung stared owlish at him.
Next to him Heechul could make out a twich in Leeteuk's ear as he stopped packing away the dishes. Everyone knew he had a soft spot for young wolves with big paws and clumsy walks.
"No, not really." Yesung nodded shyly looking down.
Kangin snorted into his hand as he slowly took pity on the boy.
An high piched squeal echoed through the room as Yesung found himself in Leeteuk's bear hug, the older one totally ruining his hair and crushing him nearly to death as everyone else burst out laughing
The raiven haired was all to happy as he heard the doorbell ring which turned the attention of the others away from him. He was in need of air, badly.
