Happy December!!
Things are going well for me in Shijiazhuang. I’m currently living a quiet uneventful life. with the exception of the poor communication between the school and the foreign teachers. Here is the latest example.

My mother and her friend, Susan, made it safely to China. My good friend Che Nan, met them at the airport. I won't see them until Ffiday. This is very hard. I was going to go up and surprise them at the airport, but I became ill this weekend. All's quiet on the western front.  Our ditches were filled in about two weeks ago.  This was welcomed especially since our bridge was becoming quite unsturdy.  However, during the construction our out going phone line was knocked out, so we havn't been able to make ( Read more... )

I have been experiencing some culture shock this time in China. I think last semester was completely the honeymoon period.  Now with a longer time here ahead of me things are different.  While I'm not experiencing severe culture shock, I still love it here, things that didn't bother me last semester are wearing on me now.

So today when I went outside I was greeted with a lovely site, a ten foot ditch in front of my building.  So that was what all the noise was last night and this morning.  The ditch runs pretty much the length of the street west of my building.  Don't worry we were given bamboo bridges to cross over, I'm sure they are very safe.  *grimaces*  So here ( Read more... )

I finished my first week of teaching. With the schedule this year I'm teaching the lower half of all Senior one classes, which is equivalent to our tenth grade. Paul, another returning teacher, has the other half of the classes. We see them once a week.
