A Tough Day at the Office

Dec 05, 2014 23:55

The reason I had to be at work today was that we were laying off one of our Staff. Originally planned for Monday (which was why I had to be at the office that day, even though Marilyn and I don't go in on Mondays in December normally), it was moved to today ( Read more... )

Glad that you were able to go and get your pad, but too bad you needed to go out in the rain. Not good for getting better. I am glad the thing at the office went all right. Marilyn told me a little about it when I called tonight. I threw up three times today, do not understand as it does not feel like the flu. Just upset stomach. Take care and rest this week-end.

Sorry that it had to be done. And, sorry that it was on top of how sick the two of you have been.

Glad you're home and hope you have a good weekend!

It should never be easy to let someone go. When I watch the movie Up In the Air where Clooney's job is to fly around and fire people, I wonder how the character can find s way to separate himself from the daily damage he does. It's like being a hired killer. My most memorable life moments are these. I read articles on how to do it, how to be brief, how to be clear, how never to say stuff like "this is harder for me than it is for you." I said, "We have really bad news, and it will be hard to hear, Your postion has been eliminated." She asked as of when. And I explained why we couldn't give advance warning. And I said, "As hard as this is for us, it isn't about us. It's about how hard it is for you and about helping you." I told her I'd help her find a new gig, send her leads and of course recommend her ( ... )

I'm usually very quiet ... shy I suppose ... on LJ. But I had to respond to this special story you shared, Marilyn. How breathtakingly (no pun intended) beautiful. I've always believed that everything happens for a reason, and this is one of the most striking illustrations. Thank you so much for sharing; it brightened my day and fits so perfectly within this season of giving.

Wow, tough time to be firing someone.

I am glad to be out of the work force now. I can not imagine being laid off during the holiday season.

I started to explain WHY everything had to happen as it did, but decided it wasn't really appropriate to share here. We have a large lists of carefully considered reasons behind this lay-off ( ... )

Oh I as not criticizing, for all I know she could have done anything to be fired. Just glad it wasn't me! No I have not ever fired anyone. I never wanted to be in a position where I was in management, by choice. I don't have the temperament for it.
