Oh man, oh man, I have so many opinions on Karkat/Terezi even though I don't really ship them on account of direly preferring them with other people.

But hey, let's break this down here.

What I Do Like About Them
A lot of people seem to cite Karkat and Terezi as having kind of a slap, slap, kiss, kiss relationship, but I don't really think that's true? Like- their relationship in Hivebent is really combative at first and people make jokes about them going on hatedates ect., but so much of their legit meaningful interaction is notably subdued. By the end of Hivebent, Terezi is Karkat's advisor: she's his Merlin, his Spock, the brains behind his bluster. Her affection for him is pity love in its purest form and she's the person he goes to in order to be all raw nerves and insecurity. But...

Why I'm Not Really Interested in Karkat and Terezi as a Couple... the thing is, I always thought Karkat treated her (unintentionally) a bit more like a moirail than anything? He's certainly interested in her, but not as much as he is in blackrom

John and Delenn are flawless.

I actually feel like JMS kind of sold their romance short at times, tbh, because there was a lot of grand, sweeping potential there that went unchecked and instead we got lots of cute moments or embarrassing humour instead of any exploration of whole schmoopy destiny aspect to their relationship. ~(-_-)~

I think what I love most about them is that fact that while they are absolutely equals in competence and cleverness, they love each other in a very unequal way. John loves Delenn like she is his light in dark places, like she is the second goddamn coming. He brightens up when she's around because in a lot of ways, Delenn saved him. On the other hand, Delenn loves John pretty selfishly. She wanted him to fall in love with her, she wanted him to live twenty extra years possibly at the expense of the Shadow War and she keeps dark secrets from him presumably for the rest of his life. She always sort of maintains that long-life-span-wise-Minbari edge over him, but it wears on her obviously almost like she's

Aside from the weird mix of snarky, flirtatious and sincere that is their canon relationship, I mostly ship them for the potential????? They are both people who mask pretty heavily and have a need to assert verbal dominance in basically any conversation (the difference is that Terezi is so natural and Dave is so painfully constructed) and

I'm not sure I have that much to say about Karkat and Dave except to me it's the perfect kismesis ship (theoretically, they've talked like twice in canon). They are opposite enough to hate everything the other stands for while being similar enough to truly understand why this loathing is justified. I love the parallels drawn between them in canon not only as the respective groups' Knights but also as people for whom having a prickly demeanor masking a squishy center like some kind of weird tropical fruit you approach with trepidation is basically a full time profession.

Like, seriously. Karkat, the only reason you thought you hated John was because you hadn't yet been exposed to Dave Strider. And there's no way it would be a one-sided hatecrush because in canon, Dave goes out of his way to aggravate Karkat further. Dave "no1curr" Strider is not dismissive in the slightest about how much he dislikes Karkat. He is defensive about comparisons made between them and seems to actively enjoy pissing Karkat up

Sokka/Azula is mostly a fanon thing and I was never really that involved in ATLA fanfic. I can definitely see where people might have gotten the idea, but I've never read any fanfic so I can't say I've really given the idea much thought.

They'd have a hilarious personality clash, though, and made and incredibly pretty battle couple. Which is probably the appeal, right?

H'okay, Dave/Jade is a pairing I've got complicated feelings about because on one hand it's super cute. They're both such unrelentingly strange people who have had very unrelentingly strange childhoods and, unlike Rose and John, I can't really imagine them integrating into normal society. They look so pretty together and I can't get over how appealing the idea of them being maladjusted weirdos together for the rest of their lives is. Also, there is so much good fic. They get all the good fic.

However, I get kind of annoyed by how patronizing Dave is towards Jade? A lot of the fandom seems to interpret it as him being all knightly and protective and shit because he ~likes~ her, but I've always read it more that... he really just thinks she's delicate and can't deal with things. He constantly under-estimates her and even if it is some sort of macho "gotta look after this girl I like" thing, I'm going to admit right here that I really don't like pairings like that. This is a big reason I love dellaluce's Jade/Dave fic, because she
