I actually feel like JMS kind of sold their romance short at times, tbh, because there was a lot of grand, sweeping potential there that went unchecked and instead we got lots of cute moments or embarrassing humour instead of any exploration of whole schmoopy destiny aspect to their relationship. ~(-_-)~
I think what I love most about them is that fact that while they are absolutely equals in competence and cleverness, they love each other in a very unequal way. John loves Delenn like she is his light in dark places, like she is the second goddamn coming. He brightens up when she's around because in a lot of ways, Delenn saved him. On the other hand, Delenn loves John pretty selfishly. She wanted him to fall in love with her, she wanted him to live twenty extra years possibly at the expense of the Shadow War and she keeps dark secrets from him presumably for the rest of his life. She always sort of maintains that long-life-span-wise-Minbari edge over him, but it wears on her obviously almost like she's surprised how much and how sincerely she loves and needs him.
But basically they are awesome because they are co-friendleader badass beneficial dictators power-walking down long, 90's lit hallways together as they cleave a path through history and remake the galaxy. Damn.
