I'm oh, maybe 2/3 or 3/4 of the way finished with a vest for SO's birthday, which is Saturday. I'm at the stage where the lining and outside are all pinned together and need to be sewn. Then it's the nitpicky sewing together of the sides, and finishing (topstitching and buttonholes/buttons). Can I just say that his desire to have real pockets ( Read more... )

I have a cape that I wear most of the winter (on campus -- on days off I often wear an ancient and threadbare jacket); it's made of a medium-weight dark grey wool and lined with heavy black acetate. I bought fabric to make SO a vest for Christmas. I don't know what I was thinking but I needed 7/8 yard of each and I only got 5/8. This. Will. Not. Work.

And this was the best day to get some work done on it too, as he went down to his campus and won't be back till dinnertime.

Gee, guess what I spent all day (and part of yesterday) doing, hm? The productivity total for the summer so far: 3 dresses, 2 pairs trousers, 2 pairs shorts, 2 shirts, 2 aprons (for my niblings), 1 nightgown. *scratches head* I think that's it!
