[Open Post] No cheeky stories, please, we're from Gormenghast

Titus never really cared much for books, yet since his arrival at the Mansion, he's been spending more time in the Library, poring through the volumes there, particularly during periods of rough weather ( Read more... )

Berger is still in the midst of his comic-reading binge, but he's just finished off a volume and is about to get another one.

And he spots the youth. Eyebrows.

".... what kinda pearl is that?" He feels compelled to ask.

Oh god, all the sluts on my roster want in, but I'm still on sort of hiatus. Do you have any preference, or?

Titus looks up and quickly tucks the book under a pillow on the window seat where he's sitting. "It...would seem to be a trove of colorful ones," he says, hesitating.

Hmmm... Tempted to ask for a Robin...and am smacking myself for wanting a Steerpike to come around and mind game him.

Berger laughs a little. "Colorful, hm? Is that about where said beads are going?"

He's no stranger to sex toys - though he hasn't used them all that much.

Goodfellow will be along as soon as I can be bothered to log into his account. >.> as for SP, I'll give it my darnest shot, but tired as I am, I worry about not writing him well. He's one of my more difficult puppetses.

Titus blushes almost as red as some of the throbbing members described in the pages of said periodical and glances away. "It might be, though I believe the authors of this book intended it as a joke: in their introduction, they spoke of choosing a modest title to confuse the ...more decorous folk," he says, awkward as a tightrope walker trying to prevent a sneeze.

Don't sweat it: the way you write SP, I always can *hear* JRM enunciating the lines. Really.

Because this has the potential to be hilarious... gettin2old4this December 11 2010, 04:16:06 UTC
In comes the little old lady that ko'ed you on Halloween, Titus. She frowns at him. Titus has potential, but he needs to learn how to man up. (Although if she knew what was going on between him and Aramat, she would be... amused.)

"Titus... you're reading." She means no ill will, but it's really hard to tell with that frown of hers.

Anyone else you'd like?

It does... she could really rip him up... 77th_earl December 11 2010, 05:42:01 UTC
He slams the book closed quicker than he probably should, looking up from it with a blushing face. "I'm sorry, Madame Genkai, I did not hear you approach: I was... rather wrapped up in reading."

Genkai just stares at him. "Thats why you need to learn how to be more aware... it may mean the difference between life and death."

She then looks a bit... curious. "What were you reading, and do you have a fever?"

Genkai: Always looking for the answers.

He glances at the book, trying to think of a polite way to put this: one has to be especially considerate with ladies and with ones elders, and this book is the sort of thing Nannie Slagg would box his ears for reading. "I suppose one could call it a collection of humorous and colorful poetry and prose, " he replies.

It might be possible for there to be a more embarrassing situation than reading certain material and having your sister appear but Fuchsia's certainly going to make a concerted effort to change that might be to impossible.

There is flump of cream material and green ribbons as Fuchsia flumps down in front of him, with a complete lack of elegance requiring the creation of a new verb.

She's smiling. Unlike Titus, she has spent a great deal of time in the library and has discovered an amazing book about knights, quests, and courtly love. It's almost as different from Titus's reading material as possible, save for the double entendres.

"What are you reading? Is this library not almost as good as daddy's? But you wouldn't remember daddy's library." She speaks quickly, not letting him answer, at first.

Titus is almost relieved for his sister's chatter, as it buys him some time to close the book carefully and set it aside. "I'm afraid I have no memory to compare it to, but this library is a treasure trove," he says, clasping his hands between his knees and looking up at the shelves. "I've spent several dull, rainy days here, roaming the shelves."

He's hoping she doesn't press him about what he was just reading.

Sorry, Titus.

"Did you find something you wanted to read?"

Oh, by the Stones and the Ivy, no.... Titus feels the floor of his stomach fall into his boots.

He looks to the book. "Ah, I suppose that one could call it an anthology of witty poetry and short stories."

Robin is (as often is the case) sitting on the windowsill not too far.

When he spots the young man reading Pearl, he can't resist.

Frankly, it's been too long - and he knows very well what this magazine is about. He might even have written for it, back in the day.

Which is why he's going to recite, in a playful, sing-song tone...

There was a young man from Peru,
Who had nothing whatever to do;
So he took out his carrot
And he buggered his parrot,
And sent the result to the zoo.

Typist has a feeling Robin was likely one of their best contributors, however one defines "best". Titus, on the other hand, is reading that very limerick and is now turning to look in the direction of the man reciting. Stunned and embarrassed, he quickly snaps the book shut, managing to pinch his finger between the pages in the process. He almost lets out a yelp, but manages to suppress the sound, which comes out as an odd sort of gulped gurgle. He coughs, trying to cover the sound, and realizes he's making a complete scene.

Robin finds this absolutely hilarious.

"What? It's good," he says innocently. "Can't take zoophilia seriously - I mean, who wants to fuck a parrot? Probably wouldn't fit the smallest dick in there anyway."

He's being purposely vulgar about it. Oh, pucks.

Titus...just stares, his face going pale and pink by turns. "I... I would suppose there's no taking such things seriously. But what sort of person has the will to think of such strange things?" he asks, trying to think of the most delicate way to put it. Someone has to maintain some semblance of decorum.

Lystra is walking through, with her very young (only a few months old) son in her arms, and she pauses when she sees Titus.

The look on his face has her wondering what he might be reading, and she's trying to work up the courage to ask.

On spotting the lovely young woman, Titus tries secreting the book back into it's place on the discreet shelf, but like a young man caught with his pants down, he makes a spectacle of himself.

The book drops open on an especially racy bit involving a gentleman and a milkmaid in a field, mit engraving...

When Lystra sees the book, the first thing she does is blush. Then she smiles. And then she starts giggling.

She finds this funny.

Titus drops his gaze, mortified, then tries to push the book closed with his toe and kick it under the chair. "Forgive me, milady, you need not have seen that," he says, trying to avoid her gaze, thinking she must believe he's completely debauched or depraved.
