[Open: Jackson] Doomed to fail but necessary

Nov 22, 2013 12:16

He's been doing a lot of work in the library, more and more so as the weather became more hostile and exploring the grounds became progressively redundant. The other thing that Daniel has been doing is trying to inventory available technology. So far, the results are devastating: there is, all in all, nothing useful, at all, to try and analyze the ( Read more... )

Here's someone Daniel's probably not too keen to see, but she's going to show up anyway. She's still annoyed that he left halfway through their last conversation.

"Oh, well," she says, walking into the room. "Look who it is."

Cue a facepalm.

"Oh please don't."

Maledisant is already so very amused. "Don't what? I'm afraid I have no idea what you're talking about."

"Live up to your reputation," he replies. "Unless there's something actually useful under all that trolling you're known for."

And since their last interaction was so brief, here's Gingalain. He's heading past but stops when he sees someone he's met.

"Oh!" he says, brightly. "Good day."

Jackson looks up - admittedly, he's getting discouraged. The youth looks familiar, though, and he recalls the amateur rock-lover.

"Good afternoon," he replies. "I see you made it out of that bush."

Gingalain blushes. He does feel a little silly that someone caught him crawling around in a bush.

"Yes," he says. "Were you doing something?"

He's just curious. Daniel doesn't seem to be doing anything except sitting around in a chair. Gingalain wonders if he's bored.

Momentarily forgetting that perhaps his modern English is illegible to some folks at the Mansion, he points to the sign.

"I'm waiting," he replies. "I suppose we didn't make introductions. Dr. Daniel Jackson."

He offers a handshake.

"None," he replies, and shrugs a little. "Haven't even seen the one physicist I know is competent, and here."

MacKay should walk by, shouldn't he?

"How are you settling in?"

Here's a familiar mother and son duo. Lystra's walking by when she spots Daniel.

"Daniel!"

It's an enthusiastic greeting because a) she likes him, and b) she's perpetually cheerful.

Blink, and a slightly despondent head turn. "Lystra," he says, and manages to sit up to greet her properly. "It's been a while."

"It has," Lystra says. She frowns a little. "Is everything alright?"

"I've come to a halt in my work," he replies, "and am looking for help."

He smiles at her, and adds, "I need to get out of this place, you see."

He might spot that odd guy who changed from a talking dog to a tall human-looking guy the day the sun got stuck, though now he's roaming along, looking for the appropriate brown chair with its occupant. This time, he's clad in a black three piece suit that makes him look rather like, well, an undertaker.

"Saw yer message: you still looking for scientific help? I thought I'd lend a hand if you are," he says.

Jackson really doesn't know what to do with you, Jacquel. By all accounts, Anubis was the biggest bad there ever was - he even lost his ascension, or rather, sacrificed it, so that he could battle the being that would have destroyed his homeworld, pretty much all Jaffa culture, and much more.

And so his response might be a little bit odd.

"I think I'll be fine, Jim. I'm not trying to end the world just yet."

Trust is going to have to be earned - and some convincing will prove necessary.

He might snerk at this, softly, the sound is dry as dust, but gentle. "Not in any hurry for that to happen. Long as the universe in the form I know it, or any other one, for that matter, lasts, there'll be a need for beings like me to bring things to and end so new things can begin," Jacquel replies, growing thoughtful. "Or at the least to help people, broadly defined, make sense of entropy."

"Wow, even de-ascended you're quite hammy," Jackson replies with some snark borrowed directly from O'Neill. "I see you found your indoor voice, though, congratulations."
