[Open: Jackson] Doomed to fail but necessary

Nov 22, 2013 12:16

He's been doing a lot of work in the library, more and more so as the weather became more hostile and exploring the grounds became progressively redundant. The other thing that Daniel has been doing is trying to inventory available technology. So far, the results are devastating: there is, all in all, nothing useful, at all, to try and analyze the ( Read more... )

It might be later in the afternoon, when a light footstep makes itself heard and a pale figure approaches... and at first glance, the figure might look something like a Wraith's East Asian cousin (if the Wraith ever wear white silk suits and rimless eyeglasses). His facial features are decidedly human though -- no trace of the pits in the skin between the nose and cheekbones -- though the grey eye peeking through his fringe has a reptilian vertical pupil.

"Doctor Daniel Jackson, I presume?" the interloper asks, bowing his head and shoulders, arms at his sides in the Japanese manner. "I hope you don't mind my introducing myself: I'm Doctor Kazutaka Muraki."

Even if he was a Wraith, Daniel would consider enlisting his help - particularly since Todd collaborated so wonderfully with MacKay. It would be a wary, very wary association, though.

"The man himself," he replies, and stands, bows in similar manner, then offers a handshake. "Pleasure, doctor. And your specialty?"

"I'm a primarily a surgeon, though I was studying genetics in my world before I was brought into this place. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to pursue that discipline here, since... we're rather lacking the technology to properly analyze my samples," he replies. "Since last year, I've been teaching high school level biology at the small school which some of the academics started here. Though, I admit, I have been looking for something a bit more intellectually stimulating." With a whisper of a smirk, he adds, "I enjoy helping the young folk to better understand the nature of life, but one can only grade so many awkwardly written lab papers before your brain starts look for an outlet."

Jackson nods, feeling sympathy for that because he once met his alternate self, a bored man whose job was to teach ESL in a small school - it frankly wasn't for him.

"Well," he says, "if you have time, Muraki-san, I'd take a seat and share with you my.... ideas?"

Echo is considering the sign, head tilted slightly. He might look like a cat that has spotted an interesting bug or shadow, but he's curious about what sort of project might require so many scientists and learned folk and what might be so incredibly desperate about the project itself. Perhaps Daniel Jackson is a danger? Or is in danger?

Heh, a cat, Jackson thinks. That stirs him, actually, from his brooding, because while he's seen dogs around, and many horses and goats, Echo is the first animal that he spots inside (TwiSpark excepted).

Well, along with dog!Jacquel.

And that is where his next thought takes him, leading this this uncanny greeting.

"Hello, Bast."

Echo glances over to the man and tilts his head. "Hello to you too,," he offers. "Though my name is Echo, not Bast." He wonders if perhaps Bast is another crat? He'll have to inquire further...

That.... was not how our local archeologist expected the interaction to go. He was hopping for a meow, or indifferent padding about - it would have been reassuring.

"... of course," he grumbles, "none of my guesses are ever correct in this place."

Sigh.

"Hello, Echo. Please tell me you aren't a divinity in disguise?"

As if the Wraith lookalike and the alternate-'verse Anubis weren't odd enough, another oddball will come along, and this guy... that bolt through his head and the visible stitches angled across his clothes have to be some odd fashion statement. He might be looking around somewhat bemusedly, steaming teacup in hand, as if looking for Jackson (or someone) and somehow missing him.

Most helpful might be the scrubs Steins is wearing - are we right in assuming so? Those might be the reason Jackson approaches him, but either way, he'll ask, "I'm sorry, are you looking for someone?"

He's definitely in scrubs today, and said scrubs are just as stitchy as the lab coat and the rest of him: they're probably stitched together from two different color sets (one green, one blue), but neatly put together (fanon is that he makes all this stuff himself). "Oh, yes," he says, taking an unlit cigarette from a corner of his mouth. "I'm looking for a Doctor Jackson? I saw his notice on the bulletin board.

"I'm Doctor Franken Stein," he says.

Jackson blinks, hard. "..... Daniel Jackson," he replies, and offers a handshake. He's trying not to stare at the bolt, but he's really unsure what to think. "... I'm sorry, did you say you were Dr. Frankenstein?"
