Here's a familiar mother and son duo. Lystra's walking by when she spots Daniel.

"Daniel!"

It's an enthusiastic greeting because a) she likes him, and b) she's perpetually cheerful.

Blink, and a slightly despondent head turn. "Lystra," he says, and manages to sit up to greet her properly. "It's been a while."

"It has," Lystra says. She frowns a little. "Is everything alright?"

[digging_giza]

"I've come to a halt in my work," he replies, "and am looking for help."

He smiles at her, and adds, "I need to get out of this place, you see."

[ofsandandstone]

Oh, Daniel. Lystra thinks you are completely clueless. She's too nice to say that, though.

"People say there isn't any way out of here."

[digging_giza]

"Yes, yes, I know," he replies. "And they would. But I've been stranded so many times, I know there has to be away."

Because, well, that's just the way it works for SG-1, right?

"Stranded where?"

[digging_giza]

A hesitation, and then he says, simply, "... away from home. Sometimes in places not unlike this one."

Lystra's manner grows a little more serious. She's still not convinced, but she's starting to wonder if maybe, maybe, there might be something here.

"And you got out?"

[digging_giza]

"Every time," he replies. "But my teammates were around - it's not the case now."

Now Lystra's wondering if his teammates were wizards.

"How did you get out?"

[digging_giza]

That could easily be argued of Sam Carter, and even the ever annoying Vala, in the later years of SG-1.

"Every instance was different," he replies, "though mostly what they held in common was the existence of a known way out - usually a Shappa'ai. And after months of searching...."

He's empty-handed.

"What's a Shappa'ai?"

Jackson reaches for a piece of paper and makes a quick sketch of it.

"This. It means Stargate in Goa'uld - a language which I thought you might be familiar with because of your attire, though now you must forgive my assumption."

"It looks strange," Lystra says. "What does it do?"

[digging_giza]

"As the name quotes it, it is a gate," he replies. "A gate between worlds - between stars, even."

A beat, and he pauses.

"Tell me, did your world have some astronomers?"
