[Open Post] Return of a young friend

Feb 09, 2013 20:59

Morgana's love of riding has been a part of her since she could walk.  She's never been just a casual rider, and thus wants to be sure her mounts are properly cared for.  When the disaster hit, so many of the horses escaped, but were quickly found.  Tame horses do not survive well in the wild and there are wolves in the woods.

Many have been found, ( Read more... )

Mal might likely be outside, going from the goat shed to the barn, carrying a couple pails of milk to run through a strainer before bringing it into the kitchen to heat it up and kill the bugs in. He'll pause, watching Morgana approach, relieved to see the last of the rightful denizens of the barn has come home.

"Mr. Reynolds!" Morgana calls out when she sees him. While Del's made it back, Morgana wants some help to check the mare over.

Should he come closer, he'll see just what a state the horse is in. "Could I ask for your help?"

He'll set the bucket in a snowdrift to stay cool, then stride to her side, concern. "Poor thing looks wore to a frazzle," he'll say, putting a gentle hand on the mare's withers, feeling her over carefully. "Where'd she turn up?"

"About two miles away. When I was out looking, I spotted fresh tracks." Morgana keeps an eye on him as he looks Del over, almost like a protective parent.

"I do not think she's eaten anything during the time she's been gone."

Robert Frobisher has no reason whatsoever to be in the stables, if he is not looking for inspiration. True that Alcuin's breathing is music enough, and that he finds ideas in the noises made by closing doors.

Still, there are other things to be done, and new symphonies to be written, and so there will be a stranger in the stables, who looks notably, very visibly out of place.

He's looking around, and taking mental notes, mostly. He may look a bit lost, or has just had a roll in the hay, but that's just because he's always slightly dishevelled.

"Yes, you worried me. You have been gone far too long." Morgana is speaking to Del as though the horse understands everything she's saying. Gently, she's stroking the horse's neck.

"Do not do that again," She chucks, before turning to the noise of whoever is wandering around.

"Hello?" That's an unfamiliar face.

Frobisher is not particularly handy in this place - they had people for such things, in London. Seeing this scene, though - does remind him of E.A. She was lovely after a bit, wasn't she?

“I did not mean to interrupt,” he says. “I am sorry for the disturbance.”

The fact that the woman is pretty helps with the courtesy. He can't really help himself, you see.

"You are not interrupting. I am only trying to convince this girl not to run off again." Morgana pats Del's neck again, and then turns to smile at the stranger.

"She has been uneasy as of late." Said uneasiness will not be obvious at this moment. The horse looks downright content.

"I must apologize, as I do not believe we have met."

If Guinevere is found in the stables, it's probably because she is looking for Mal - perhaps hoping to find him so she can talk him into going with her for a ride, or perhaps she has other reasons to look for him.

One way or the other, the much too young queen of Camelot will be there, looking for a gentle mare she can coddle into letting herself be ridden.

As long as that mare is not Del, who needs a good few weeks of rest and rehabilitation, Morgana might even help find said mare.

In Camelot, Morgana would never have taken care of the feeding, but here she is, measuring out the oats and other grains. Right now, the mare's getting smaller meals, though more often, as to not shock the system.

She's not dressed in any way that might indicate her status at home. In fact, she could quite easily be mistaken for a stable hand.

"We have managed to find them all," She comments, expecting the other woman's here to inspect the herd.

The mare Guinevere is acquainting herself with is a white thing of beauty, a bit slow perhaps on the uptake, but that works well with the Queen.

“Come again?” she asks, “I'd no knowledge any were missing.”

In fact, she recalls quite vividly the efforts of a young man with a strange hat, who spent most of the first night calming down the horses.

"Just this one. She is causing me worry." Morgana sounds as though she's chastising a toddler, when she turns to Del. "Took off a week ago, and I was lucky to find her this morning."

"Do you have one here you favour?"

Perhaps during her search, she will come across a knight who is more sober than most, whose garb is dark and whose favored weapon is the bow.

Tristan will greet her, politely, nodding, raising a hand to show his good intent.

“My lady,” he calls. “Art well?”

It can be before or after she finds Del, up to you.

"I am now. Relieved, in truth. I found my horse this morning."

Morgana's been busy all day, but the search and attention she's had to give have worn her out.

"And yourself, sir?"

Tristan can relate to that feeling: he lost Husdent on his way here, and not a day goes by that he won't miss his dog. Of course there's Husdent II - but he's a silly thing that won't compare to the knight's faithful and stalwart companion. (Case in point, we don't even know where he is right now.)

“Well enough,” he says, “I am pleased to hear you are well, my lady.”

There's the shadow of sadness in his eyes, though: the slayer of giants lost much in the quake. Indeed, he lost his steed, his best friend.

He lost his dragon.

"Have you not one of your own?" Morgana's not certain any of the horses are truly anyone's but she will always have a soft spot for Del.

She's mistaken the sadness for a direct comparison, though any loyal animal can cause such a feeling.

Morgana would appreciate another with the love of riding. Sure, as the ward of Camelot, people would talk up her skills, but riding was not one about which people needed to exaggerate.

Morgana would also understand preferring the relative harmony of horses, rather than the confusion of technology.

It's why she's here now, besides checking on a scrape on one of Del's legs.

:"Morgana," whether the new arrival can see it, Morgana will offer a smile.

With the disguise and behaviour, Morgana assumes the boy (as she see Lou) is simply shy.

"Do you often work out here?"
