True to her word, Mariko headed down to the infirmary where Warren said he was currently healing. He'd be taken to jail soon, according to Scott, until everything was cleared up. And given what she'd seen-- she understood the necessity.

But it didn't make her any less angry. At Warren and Scott for keeping this secret, at Joker for attacking him, at Hodge for taking advantage of the situation. Moreover, she was worried. It'd been easy to get Angel into a depressive mood lately and this probably wasn't helping.

She knocked on the door but didn't wait for him to respond before she invited herself in. Her arms were folded lightly over her chest and she gave him a quick appraisal.

"You look like crap."

"Understatement of the year," he scoffed, wetting his cracked lips before peering over to her.

Warren knew she was mad. He'd spent enough time with this woman since being ported here to get to know her well, and he hated the fact that he had to come back and destroy all the trust that they'd built. Mariko had been there for him during some awful moments, and this was not the way Warren wanted to repay her.

"I'm surprised you haven't lit me on fire yet."

Mariko was mad, though likely not for the reasons Warren thought.

"I want to hear what you have to say first," She said, swallowing back a mixture of anger and tears. "You healing up okay?"

He nodded, not really giving his physical injuries any sort of thought. Once the venom was cleansed from his bloodstream, his healing factor would take care of all the cuts and bruises painting him.

His head space was a totally different story though, and trying to think of what it was he wanted to explain to her was just agony. "What's to say? You saw what I did-- what I can do. I've been able to do it since back home."

Getting ported out of here hadn't been the best thing to ever happen to him.

[She didn't care if he didn't want her there; nothing was stopping Alison from visiting Warren. She walked into the room, expression falling when she caught sight of him.]

Warren...

[He looks up, watching her through swollen eyes. He doesn't smile.]

I knew you wouldn't listen to me.

Of course I wouldn't!

[She approaches, going up right next to him. Alison hates seeing him like this. She places a hand over his forehead, unable to form anything resembling a happy expression.]

[He flinches at the touch, almost scared of feeling any contact when he was like this.]

You should have!

Of course Peter would come visit. He doesn't know Harry is out there doing god knows what with Carnage and Warren needs a friend more than almost anyone else out there, right now, here, when he's probably doubting himself the most.

Just like I did.

It's about two in the morning when he knocks on the door. He's wearing civilian clothes, but feels almost naked. Their...their situations were almost eerily similar, when you got right down to it. Peter turned into a giant Spider and possibly killed people, while Warren.

Well.

"It's me. Can I come in?"

no worries, bb ascending_angel July 29 2009, 03:57:04 UTC
Warren doesn't move from his spot on the bed when Peter knocks. He's staring at the door and watching it for any movement.

When there is none, he clears his throat and speaks with a hoarse voice.

"Sure."

Spider-Man. One of the greatest super heroes from their universe, and a guy who'd done nothing but help Warren out and be a friend since they were trapped here. It was hard to sit under the gaze of people so good to him when he was like this.

"I hope you're feeling better. I got you pretty bad."

I LIED. bythreadalone July 29 2009, 06:39:31 UTC
Peter gingerly pushes open the door, and makes his way inside as quickly and quietly as possible. Without Wolverine around, he felt as if he was barely tolerated at the new institute, even of a dearth of friendly faces populated it or not.

When he catches sight of Warren, his stomach does a flip, landing somewhere in the back of his rib-cage.

That.

Christ.

"I'll live, man. Relative strengths of a spider and all that, you know?"

He could barely even crack wise.

oh that's okay I can forgive you ascending_angel July 29 2009, 20:00:24 UTC
In Warren's mind, Spidey was definitely tolerated around these halls, and Wolverine wouldn't have to be around for that. Hell, Wolverine was barely around as it was, and Warren had actually felt Spider-Man had been a much stronger beacon of support for him lately.

Hell, Warren wasn't sure he'd ever be able to pay Spidey back enough.

"Eh, bug or not, I still have to ask. Hell, you shouldn't have had to deal with that crap to start with."

There was that bitter self loathing again, dammit.

"I'm sorry."

It was all he could even think to say. His head was just swimming still, and even now Warren didn't have any way to explain himself.

[Warren was feeling more relaxed. The friendly faces and the support were overwhelming enough, but the mixture of Dazzler and Penny's empathic relief made even breathing feel easier. Warren had no idea how he would pay any of these people back, or if he even could, but he would do so in a heartbeat if he was ever given the chance to.

Though his head was swimming, Warren's powers were still working functionally -- and that including enhanced hearing and eyesight. Eventually he was able to notice Penny standing back, and his eyes met hers.]

Hello.

[He wouldn't hurt her. Warren had spent months trying to protect Penny, and despite all that had gone on with Joker, Hodge, Rimmer, Starscream -- all of them -- Angel had never felt any disdain toward her.]

You came. I didn't expect you'd want to see this sight for sore eyes.

[He's joking, but he doesn't sound very peppy. He just doesn't want her to be scared of him.]

Illyana had lingered in the door frame looking him over before walking in hesitantly. She'd been nearby since she'd come back from the cleanup staying just outside the door watching people come in and out. A part of her was staying close to watch over him and the other part of her was staying close to watch everyone else. Not because she wanted to make sure he didn't hurt them, but because she wanted to make sure they didn't say anything that could hurt him. She knew what he might be feeling and figured he would beat himself up enough without the help of anyone else.

"Hello Warren," she said coming closer.

Hearing Illyana's voice actually surprised Warren a bit; so much had gone on in the past few days, and she'd only just shown up. Hell, even if she'd only been here a little while, the girl was doing an amazing job of making her presence known. Warren should have given her a little more credit.

It was different now, too. Illyana had been claiming to be a soulless monster; someone missing such a huge piece of herself. All of a sudden Warren was feeling that very same way. Like nothing existed within him except a black thundercloud of darkness. It was too bad she had to feel that way when she was so young.

"Hey Illyana," he forced a small smile, trying to take it easy on his cracked and split lips. "You okay?"

Only a few days had gone by since she'd shown up here and something had already gone wrong, she wondered if this place was like home where every other day something went wrong. Illyana hadn't minded Scott asking her to help, back home even after all she'd done he'd asked her to stay saying that she was still family. She would have gone to see if she could help if he hadn't asked anyway because she could tell that Warren wasn't himself and she understood that.

Illyana tried to smile at him it was hard to muster much of a smile though with him looking like that. "I'm fine Warren, it's me that should be asking you that. How are you holding up?"

"Bad and okay, I think," he cleared his throat and sat up a little so he could look at her better without craning his neck. "I had two empaths in here so far trying to make me feel better, so that worked for awhile."

Just awhile until he was able to remember everything all over again and it would wear off.

Of course, physically he felt like crap too and the telepaths that tore through his mind made his thoughts muddy. Warren knew it had to have been done though, so he didn't hold it against them.

"I said some crappy things to you, Illyana. I want you to know that...you know, I didn't mean that stuff..."
