True to her word, Mariko headed down to the infirmary where Warren said he was currently healing. He'd be taken to jail soon, according to Scott, until everything was cleared up. And given what she'd seen-- she understood the necessity.

But it didn't make her any less angry. At Warren and Scott for keeping this secret, at Joker for attacking him, at Hodge for taking advantage of the situation. Moreover, she was worried. It'd been easy to get Angel into a depressive mood lately and this probably wasn't helping.

She knocked on the door but didn't wait for him to respond before she invited herself in. Her arms were folded lightly over her chest and she gave him a quick appraisal.

"You look like crap."

"Understatement of the year," he scoffed, wetting his cracked lips before peering over to her.

Warren knew she was mad. He'd spent enough time with this woman since being ported here to get to know her well, and he hated the fact that he had to come back and destroy all the trust that they'd built. Mariko had been there for him during some awful moments, and this was not the way Warren wanted to repay her.

"I'm surprised you haven't lit me on fire yet."

Mariko was mad, though likely not for the reasons Warren thought.

"I want to hear what you have to say first," She said, swallowing back a mixture of anger and tears. "You healing up okay?"

He nodded, not really giving his physical injuries any sort of thought. Once the venom was cleansed from his bloodstream, his healing factor would take care of all the cuts and bruises painting him.

His head space was a totally different story though, and trying to think of what it was he wanted to explain to her was just agony. "What's to say? You saw what I did-- what I can do. I've been able to do it since back home."

Getting ported out of here hadn't been the best thing to ever happen to him.

She stepped a little further in the room, muscles finally relaxing enough to allow her to move. She took a seat near his bed.

Mariko licked her lips.

"Is it always this out of control?"

That question made him avoid her gaze. Could he explain to her how easy it was to fly off the handle now? Could he possibly explain to her that he hulked out into a murderous machine every time he felt threatened? The programming Apocalypse created inside of his mind was an unstoppable force, and it would take a long time for him to ever overcome it; it'd taken months the first time, and it'd been months for this second time and he was not getting better.

He stuck with one word for his answer. "Sometimes."

Mariko mulled that over for a moment. It wasn't like Warren, she thought. Or the Warren she knew. What'd happened? What had she missed?

"How..." She paused, trying to think of how she wanted to form this question.

"What happened to change things? You weren't like.... this, before."

The whole thing played over in his mind when she asked; Rahne sinking her teeth into him and mauling him around like some chew toy. Blooding completely painted and bathed his home from floor to wall to ceiling. The pain and agony that tore through him with every bite was like fire. Then she was gone into the night like a beast on a mission and he was left with nothing; a monster in his own right.

"They took my wings."

Her eyes went wide.

"Your wings? Who? How?"

She made fun of him for them, but they were a part of them. It was like if Nightcrawler suddenly looked like a regular human. It just wouldn't be the same anymore.

"Wolfsbane. She chewed them right off; amputated them just like Hodge had, only worse."

The team had tried to heal him; they tried to wrap him up and calm him down, but his body went into such shock and he was so traumatized that his old programming had just taken over him completely and transformed him. Warren hadn't been the same person since that day.

It was all that bitch's fault.

"I just changed. I don't know anything else beyond that. The programming was always there, I think."

A hand went up to cover Mariko's mouth, visibly horrified. Wolfsbane chewed his wings off? Wasn't she on their side? Why would she.. ?

She dropped her hand and licked her lips again.

"So when you got hit with the gas here.. it triggered that."

"That's what they told me. It's supposed to kill people, but my healing and DNA is just...a mess. Combated it and sent me into some kind of rage or something. They're still running tests."

The only thing that worried him was what kind of long term affect this would have on him. Surely his body could flush the venom out, but would it change the way he was triggered? Would he set off easier? That was the last thing he needed; people were already slaughtered and terrified and Warren should not be allowed to do that to anyone else.

Mariko gave him a once-over. He was a mess of cuts and bruises, so much so that it was hard to find any available uninjured skin. She spotted a relatively undamaged area on his arm and placed her hand over it.

"I'm so sorry, Warren."

He just glanced up at her, still frowning. "It was going to come out sooner or later. Can only hide something like that for so long."

She bit at her lower lip.

"Then why try to hide it in the first place?"

He didn't look at her. "I was in the wrong place at the wrong time. I interrupted a mission of a team I wasn't supposed to know anything about. Me changing to this form again would only blow their cover, so I had to hide it. It was for the best."
