A little OVFF course: onwards to FRIDAY (night).

The first time I was asked to participate in the Pegasus Concert was 2004, when I performed 'Black Davie's Ride' with Paul Kwinn and Alisa Garcia (one-half of Puzzlebox, aka, 'my darling Matt's favourite filk group in the entire known universe'). I've actually been in the concert every year since then, which I hadn't fully realized until I really ( Read more... )

Your performance was good enough to win my vote for the song in mid-concert, when I thought I already *knew* what I was doing for that category. I don't usually do that.

I laughed a little at your description of onstage pain, as I have managed to continue singing through:
1) being hit on the head with a falling wooden sign
2) falling off the stage and into the front row

I also adore "Still Catch the Tide" with an abiding passion.

My best 'did this and kept singing' would probably have to be the production of Into the Woods where I fell into the orchestra pit and landed on a viola player. (Neither the viola player nor the viola were damaged.)

Oh, my. Way to go, keeping going from that!

And the icon is just a stitch, too.

That was the production I did with my back out, stoned on painkillers and propped up against walls by my co-stars.

Ah, memories.

The mix for Still Catch the Tide wasn't perfect - it was hard to hear some of your vocals - but that's not surprising; no matter how good the sound man, trying to do levels for that many people with no sound check is hard. (And there is definitely not time to do a sound check before every song in the Peggie concert.)

It's something I probably will point out to future performers, though, to remember for complicated arrangements. People can certainly go for lush layered sounds, but there will be a curve going into the song before the mix settles down.

Of course, since I already know the words, it didn't bother me at all. *grin* I could just sit there and kind of melt into the mix.

I was afraid of that -- we were trying to get the microphone turned up (mine) before the song started, but my maddened flailing probably just made it look like I had a wasp in my knickers. Mark remains a sound god, however, just for being able to deal with things as well as he did.

Yes - we should all grovel to the sound gods! As I said, though, it was still very pretty!

AFAIK there are at least two recordings of your performance: mdlbear on an H2, probably at full fidelity, and catsittingstill on an H4, at MP3 quality. It may take those individuals a bit to get everything separated and whatever, but they're out there, barring Murphy.

I'm looking forward to hearing it too...

I will absolutely be asking for recordings, once folks have things sorted out and copied down. I'll also probably ask the other people involved (IE, Amy, Brenda, Mary, Tony, Vixy, and, of course, Talis, since it's her song) if they mind the recording being posted on the Filk Archive, since there are a lot of folks in the UK who couldn't be there.

At the same time, I really, really hope I have the chance to get all those permissions before anybody starts sharing things around. Files being distributed widely without permission make me sad. (I know that generally goes without saying in the filk community, but I always get a little twitchy when recordings are involved and permissions haven't been obtained. This is because Pretty Little Dead Girl was held up by about two months by a single person not signing off on the 'sure, you can share this around'.)

Mark took all of the concert through the sound board. I'm certain he'd give you a copy of your song.

Congratulations on nailing the performance, in spite of adversity. If a sound file becomes available I'd like to hear it.
