Continuity errors

In preparation for the release of "The Lost Hero" (I can't believe it's only a week away!!!) I've been rereading the PJO series for the 3rd time, and I cannot stress how much I LOVE this series ( Read more... )

wow that was really cool/nice of you :D

I didn't notice any of this because I read the books really fast so I ended up not paying attention to details. This makes me want to re-read all of them before The Lost Hero gets released.

Yes, these. I love RR to death, but that man has got to keep his facts straight from now on.

I've noticed most of these before, but there's another one that's kind of a continuity error but isn't: Annabeth cries in the books. A lot. And then when anyone writes a fanfiction with her crying in it, they're chewed out for writing her OOC.

Someday I want to read through the books again and list all the times that she cries, because it's seriously more than anyone would believe. :/

I thought I was writing Annabeth OOC for one fic because I had her cry a lot, but then I went back and remembered that she cries at least once every book, lol.

But usually the cause of her crying is fairly traumatic so I can see why some people are quick to jump on the OMG OOC! bandwagon when it comes to that.

Yeah, I noticed most of those on my first reading. Perhaps because I got into the books just as the final one was released and there wasn't any long wait between books that might cause details to fade. As they perhaps did for the author.... ;P

it pulls me out of the story cos I have to go back and check whether I've misremembered something or whether Riordan has indeed contradicted himself
Same here. Very frustrating that his editor didn't pick this stuff out or that (as far as I know) they haven't fixed anything for later printings. (Not that I'd buy the books again but it'd be nice to know they cared.)

3. I'm naturally a dirty blonde that was commonly mistaken for brown. Since Percy wasn't waxing poetic about 'chocolate locks', I would say her hair, canonly, is dark blonde/light brown.

That's exactly my thought on Clarisse. I'm the same, so I've always assumed upon reading this particular "error". Which I'm not even considering an error because I know a lot of people mistake me for a brunette at first glance, but my driver's license and birth certificate both clearly state 'dark ash blonde'. Brown and dirty blonde seem to go hand-in-hand it seems.

Oh yeah, sorry. I originally read the Australian release paperbacks and I'm currently reading the American hardbacks, and everything I mentioned is in both sets :)

I think you're probably right about the Clarisse thing, just thought I'd add it to the list anyway, and yeah, I didn't want this to come off as me hating on Riordan, cos nothing could be further from the truth. It probably is little typos that just weren't picked up on. Having said that, this sort of stuff should be picked up by his editor ...

in the demigod files, silena beauregard has black hair and brown eyes. in the last olympian, she has brown hair and blue eyes, lol.

That bugged the living crap out of me so much, you have no idea.
It's weird because it's bothered me with no other character other than her.
>.<
