Continuity errors

In preparation for the release of "The Lost Hero" (I can't believe it's only a week away!!!) I've been rereading the PJO series for the 3rd time, and I cannot stress how much I LOVE this series ( Read more... )

From what I remember about Greek mythology, especially pertaining to Dionysus, he had leopard companions at some point or another. So I'm rather assuming that the tiger-skin was either a typo or a mistake in Riordan's research that he later went on to correct.

As for the black pegasus in SoM, I've always just thought that Percy either didn't get a good look at the underside of the pegasus and mistook the gender or simply there was more than one black pegasus on the Andromeda and Blackjack is one of the ones that escaped - though this second theory probably has no justification; I've been bit lax on re-reading the series myself.

The Blackjack thing - Percy can hear her thoughts. So presumably her "voice" was female, hence why he referred to her as a black mare. I think this is one case where Riordan either forgot that or decided to change the gender regardless, hoping no one would notice (which, to be fair, I didn't til the 3rd read through, haha).

2. Unless Percy took out a tape measure then and there, I'll give it a pass. Ten feet, fifteen feet, point is they're a lot taller than us puny mortals. Also, they're gods. Maybe they can change size just to mess with us?

3. Dirty blonde is sorta brown. Maybe her hair lightened from being in the sun a little, or maybe Percy just learned to use more specific adjectives.

I've noticed these, and no, they don't bother me, because the series I read before PJO was Warriors and they are chock-full of mistakes. (Gender switches, spellings, name switches, cats dissappearring and appearing from the allegiances list all the time ...) So I'm used to them, and these are very minor compared to the ones in Warriors.

Maybe we should mail RR a box of post-it notes so he can keep these tiny continuity details in check.

Good eye, though!

I noted some of these while reading, but not all.

Not really a continuity error, but I hate hate hate that the gray streaks in Percy and Annabeth's hair are never mentioned after TTC. Are we to assume they grew out or that they got them dyed or they're just still there?

I agree! That always bothered me, too.

I was going to say that, too; it's not the continuity errors that bother me, because 1) these are fairly minor and 2) nearly every book series I've read has something like that.

What bugs me more is when the little details that I think are really cool are mentioned once and then just...dropped. There are a few others that bug me, but I haven't read the books recently enough to remember most of them...the grey streaks are really the main one, though =/
