wild bees again

One of the things that really tripped me out when I went
to North India the first time was seeing all of the wild bee hives
hanging in the most random places.
When we think of wild bees, or any bees here in the States
its like instant fear. We call the exterminator.
In North India it seems wild bee hives
are just another part of the scenery?

That's amazing!

I'm hoping to go to Sri Lanka in July. Any chance you'll be in India?

Ah yes, I'm very glad you posted about this because I often wondered the same thing. I had never thought of it as a North Indian phenomenon, though.

I stayed at a hotel in some podunk town and there was a vast beehive right outside my window. You could hear the drone of the bees. I could hardly sleep I was so terrified, and shoved towels into all the cracks (of which there were many) in the window frame that separated me from the bees. Lived to tell the tale, though. Maybe they're not particularly aggressive in India?

When I was about 10 years old I either walked right into a swarm of bees without noticing, or one formed around me. In any case, I didn't notice the bees until I was completely surrounded by them. At that point, I couldn't think of anything to do but keep walking, so that's what I did. I passed through them unscathed, and since then I haven't been particularly fearful of bees.
