wild bees again

One of the things that really tripped me out when I went
to North India the first time was seeing all of the wild bee hives
hanging in the most random places.
When we think of wild bees, or any bees here in the States
its like instant fear. We call the exterminator.
In North India it seems wild bee hives
are just another part of the scenery?
For some reason the bees seem to love to make hives
on Islamic monuments. I think its the geometry of the buildings?

anyway

Here are some wild bee hives I saw in Chanderi.
They were actually the only bee hives I saw in Chanderi.
Just outside of town there is this 30+ foot tall colossus carved into the hillside.
Its a  Jain Teerth called Khandargiri. Carved around the 15th or 16th century.
On ledges above the colossus' head were a bunch of active hives.
Why the bees picked this spot, is anyones guess?
Like I said, there weren't any hives anywhere else
in the whole area.
