GUYS. I HAVE A LOT OF FEELINGS ABOUT THOR. THAT WAS AWESOME. My favorite superhero movie since Batman Begins, by a LONG shot.

Disclaimer: I have not read any of the comics (aside from the occasional scan on scans_daily), and my knowledge of Norse mythology is extremely limited. So.

OMG HAAAAWKEYE!!! And you know how I already have an EPIC crush because bow and arrow, man! /archery flailing

ANDANDAND SIF. I think they wanted subtext there because Thor/Sif is the pairing in the comics, so. ANYWAY. SO HOT. (They would make such pretty babies, for srs.)

Oh fuck YOU, sir. THAT IS NOT OKAY. (I LOVE YOU.)LOLOLOLOLOL INORITE ( ... )

YESSS. I think I just happened to see Nick and Nora before I saw that. But YES.

I think they wanted subtext there because Thor/Sif is the pairing in the comics

OH GOD REALLY? OH MAN. I COULD TOTALLY BE ON BOARD WITH THAT. I am just so conflicted because FRIENDS but also REALLY HOT and FRIENDS. You know? I mean, obviously, I don't have to CHOOSE (multiple! branching! universes!), I just don't think I have ever simultaneously shipped and kind of actively NOT shipped a pairing before, and it is a strange feeling! HEE.

I LOVED how his arc wasn't just about jealousy but about having his identity yoinked from under him and WHAT THE HELL WAS HE SUPPOSED TO DO WITH THAT? Complex, layered villains who aren't necessarily villainous?

YES YES YES YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS. I think that Loki has good in his heart the same way Thor does, that was just a LOT of SERIOUS SHIT for him to deal with all at once and, um, mistakes were made. THIS, basically: I should not be wanting to smish you ( ... )

"Reunited (in a non-murdery way)" is now officially going to be the subtitle of every fic I write from now on.

That, or "Oh fuck YOU, sir. THAT IS NOT OKAY. (I LOVE YOU.)"

One or the other.

(I know I say this practically every time you post a glee post, but that's only because every time you a glee post I end up filled with glee. Even if my gleemometer was reading less-than-zero you manage somehow to top up the glee reservoir enough to get me through whatever glee-sucking endeavour I'm engaged in. You, ma'am, are a hero and glee is your superpower.)

Non-murdery reunions are the best kind, I find! The other kind are so messy, and all the food gets cold!

I'm very VERY glad that my glee makes you gleeful. I feel that this is an awesome superpower to have. :) *smiiiiiiiiiishes you*

Yes! Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes! I had loads of fun with this movie. The secondary characters were wonderfully done for the most part (hats off to you, Mr. Branagh, for giving Sif her awesome undiluted by owing it to any guy!) and so on. I liked the Bifrost in 3D - did you see it in 2D?

Anthony Hopkins was wonderfully distant as Odin and Tom Hiddleston was wonderfully opaque as Loki. Chris Hemsworth was wonderfully ripped as mancandy, er, Thor.

There's already good fic starting to show up over at AO3 (I've recced several stories in the fandom already) - shippy AND gen.

Ooh, you know, I DID see it in 2D; that's probably exactly why the Bifrost looked kind of weird. Good point!

And I read your fic recs last night, actually--thank you so much for those! I'm glad it seems to be catching people's imaginations. :)

Ha! I basically agree with everything about this. I used to read the comics as a kid (and more recently, when J.M. Straczynsi brought Thor back), so did my sister, and we spent the film sighing happily. When they first showed wee Loki, we went: "perfect casting!". When they showed grown-up Loki, it was: "fuck me, he's even more perfectly cast". And I loved the way he was played: the vulnerability, the jealousy, the quick mind, everything. And I believed him when he said that at first, when he let the frost giants in, it was "just" mischief to ruin Thor's big day. He only became truly hateful when he found out about his origins. And it's not explicit, but I think that there must be an element of: all along, he thought that he was in a real competition with Thor to see who would succeed Odin, that he could compensate his lack of strength with magic, knowledge and cleverness, and he suddenly finds out that he never was in the running in the first place, because I doubt that Odin, for all his "you're my son", would have let the son of the ( ... )

Sure, Loki was right about the fact that he wouldn't have made a good king, and he was exiled for a good reason, but the basic decency is already there, and I think we see it in his four friends' loyalty. They love him for a reason, despite the eyerolls.

Yes yes yes, exactly!

to me, the real catalyst for change was elsewhere

YES, I 1000% agree. I said that in an unclear way, I just realized--I didn't mean that Jane actually ILLUSTRATED to him how to be a good person (because I don't think he really NEEDED that), just that she WAS kind to him when he had no one and nothing, and he genuinely appreciated it. But yeah, I completely agree that the real catalyst was his exile, and the way it made him aware of a kind of strength that has nothing to do with bashing shit with a huge hammer. Hee.

AND THOR THANKS HIM FOR TELLING HIM IN PERSON AND IS ALL SORRY AND OH MY HEART.OH MY GOD SERIOUSLY. AND HIS SAD LITTLE FACE. IT WAS THE SADDEST FACE. (LOKI HOW COULD YOU SAY THOSE THINGS TO THAT SAD FACE.) AND HE WAS SO ACCEPTING OF WHAT HAD TO BE ( ... )

I was more addressing some general critics I've seen. A lot of people weren't sold on the epic love story that changed Thor, and I have to admit that they kind of have a point, since it's even presented that way a little in the film, when Loki basically goes: "What made you change this way? Oh, it's a WOMAN, RIGHT? Maybe I'll pay her a visit", which is a bit dumb and not what the film ACTUALLY SHOWED US. No, Loki, you're actually the one who started his change for the better, you devious trickster, you! Come on, you should enjoy it when things are unpredictable, right ( ... )

Oh RIGHT. I'd actually forgotten about that! At the time it definitely struck me as more of a way for Loki to bring Jane into it (and therefore goad Thor into attacking him) than an actual true fact, but then Thor's reaction indicates that HE believes it, anyway, so. Yes. I can see where that would be an issue.

But I saw it more like the beginning of something potentially great. Plus, while she's actively searching for Thor, it works even better because she's not dropping everything about her life to do so, she's doing it by continuing the research she's been doing for years, (with a much bigger budget! who could resist?) which I liked.

YES. Agreed on all counts!

WHEN HE STEALS JANE'S NOTEBOOK BACK.

YES. OH MAN. THAT WAS SO GOOD. ♥_♥

I have been exploding in a ridiculous manner about this movie all over Tumblr for daaaays.

Ugh it ran away with my heart. OH MAGIC RAINBOW VIKING PRINCE FROM OUTER SPACE MOVIE. It probably helps that it was clearly based, general sensibility-wise, on my MY FAVORITE THOR COMIC OF ALL TIME Thor: The Mighty Avenger, which is beautiful and perfect and about sunshine and friendship and hugs. (Most other Thor comics are convoluted and turgid and involve SO MANY OF THE WORST SHENANIGANS esp wrt Sif and Jane ugh, to the extent that I had to WARN SOMEONE AWAY from attempting to read them for Thor/Sif bcs lololol nope, no satisfaction there.)

At this point I am incapable of actually articulating anything intelligent about this movie and just spend my time flailing around about Thor being the golden retriever of superheroes and crying about Loki forever.

Also writing compleeeetely ridiculous fic. Which I should go back to rn.

Butting in to say YES, yes you should! Even for the Chris Samnee art alone ♥___♥

(Thor being a big sap over his brother is apparently the Best Thing Ever to me. I love that his reaction to comics Loki just about literally ruining everything and then offing himself on purpose was "Man, I miss my bro. Imma bring him back to life.")
