Hearing Privilege

Dec 31, 2015 13:21

I probably should have posted this yesterday as a WTF Wednesday.

Oh FFS, not being deaf is now having “hearing privilege.”

“2. Christians With Hearing Privilege Encounter Music Celebrating Their Holiday Everywhere They Go This Month.”

I am so done with the Everyday Feminist web site and their privilege shaming.

links, priviledge

I might have to finally start acting like a privileged asshole if this nonsense keeps up.

I really need to just stop clicking on anything that comes from that site. =P

This is sad. These people should take the "everyday" out of their name as they frighten away real everyday people who believe in equality and fairness.

I know! I consider myself a feminist, and they really turn me off with their attitudes.

Some sites seem to exist solely to discover things to be negative and angry about. What sad little lives the people behind them must lead.

Yeah, I've given up any hope of continuing to read the site. I need to consider my blood pressure. =P

The notion of privilege is born of the fact life is not fair, and that is a bottomless well of fodder for the constantly outraged to yodel about.

Yeah, my parents raised me with the idea that "life isn't fair" too.

But I think there's something to be said for "privilege" existing for race, gender, and sexuality, because there is pretty rampant discrimination based on those things. So much that we often aren't aware of how bad it gets sometimes. But when we start extending the idea of privilege too much, and making it apply to every unfair thing in life (and not just systematic oppression), it ceases to be a useful concept.
