Those are not the Landsknecht I am looking for...

Last year at the event at Plymouth College Medieval and Renaissance Forum I met the Baron of Stonemarche (AKA the SCA name for New Hampshire). We had a lovely long chat and he told me how much he wanted to do some Landsknecht garb. I can't recall, I may have even sent him the visual costume reference that I made up a year or so back. He was so ( Read more... )

I saw them yesterday and just thought the color choice looked unattractive. Not that red, white, and blue don't go together, but the placement was too scattered for me. Didn't like it. I didn't hget the impression from the garb that they were making fun of a group... I guess it depends on the conversation that went with the costuming.

I somehow missed seeing them yesterday. When I saw the first couple of photos I thought the color choices looked odd/off/not-quite-right. Then I saw the post about the cheerleader inspiration. And then the post with the Patriots swoosh on his coif. And I just......

*headdesk*

(And I don't think they're trying to make fun of Landsknecht. I just think it's tasteless to mix and match modern and medieval like that)

Yeah, there was a whole 'NFL uniforms as historical garb' thing going on. Weird.

And the only reason I joined is that the discount I get on gate at Pennsic & Estrella pays for it.

The other one I saw recently was "SCA garb as your favorite superhero" which just.... I dunno. Seems so wrong!

I actually liked the idea- when Her Maj suggested it, my goal was to do it as subtly as possible- like an Eagle green jacket, and maybe make a falling band out of feathers.

She was very clear that simply making a tunic out of eagles printed felt didn't work.

I'm sorry you felt that way, like they were making fun of landsknecht.

I was just bothered by how it was done- the beads on the dress KILLED me.

I also see the point you are making- about mixing medieval and modern. It's the terrible line the SCA always seems to be walking.
