Why does it seem that the people who want what I want are the people who don't want me, and the people who want me don't want what I want

chin up! it's not like there is some life-long curse on you that will prevent you from having a successful long term relationship. it's **hard** to find somebody who matches you well and even that will take plenty of compromise.
so know when you need to compromise in order to keep things going and know when you're selling out too much of who you are. in the meantime, don't try to force the relationship issue too much. from what i've seen, i think a lot of relationship downfalls happen when one or both parties are too concerned with "the relationship" to allow a really meaningful relationship to blossom--whether it be friendship or otherwise.
I know that this might be hard to hear, but it worked for me - I got sick and tired of the same type of pattern, as well as entering into relationships that I KNEW were not satisfying, just to be in a relationship - so for the longest time, I just focused on enjoying being with ME. I went for a year without a date at all, and then, completely randomly, I met the man I'm going to marry. Because of the time that I spent really being good to myself, and getting to know myself, I was in a stage to take advantage of this wonderful man. Daniel - there are people out there for you, who will love you for who you are. . . sometimes it just takes a little while to find them! At this point, just work on loving yourself!
Wow...and I'd almost thought you'd gotten rid of your LJ! :-P And then here you are to send me words I needed to hear. Must be an Episcopalian/ex-Academy-Street-resident thing. lol
I was extremely exhausted physically and emotionally when I wrote that. Things are better during the day, when I'm less tired, but yeah--you speak great truth, oh Queen of the Bean.
