It wasn't the episode I wanted, but it still had a lot of interesting aspects.

Having a segment of the population with different goals and wishes did not surprise me. Thus far, we've seen that only a handful of people have a say in the direction the fleet is headed and what their priorities should be and I would think a substantial number of people are feeling marginalized. However, the peace movements beliefs and demands are devoid of logic. It seems like most of their anger is directed at the military (not without reason), so their solution is to make nice with the group that mearly wiped out their race? Nope, not making any sense.

His flaws were definitely on show again this week: the misogyny, the self-obsession, the instability. And my problem with that is that it is a total character regression. It's as if the last three episodes never happened and it really disturbs me if the show is going to sacrifice characterization to set up a plot point ( ... )

Yes--I agree about the peace movement. Severe lack of logic there. I couldn't understand how they could have reached this point of view. Surely even if they couldn't really imaginatively compass the scope of the Cylon annihilation of humanity, they must have all *personally* lost loved ones to the Cylons? How then do they feel that just rocking up and surrendering is going to work? Grr! I wish they had been more fully fleshed out, because, as you say, I'm sure there are people in the fleet who feel marginalised and I'd be fascinated to see their perspectives displayed ( ... )

Hmmm.
I've come to greatly enjoy BSG and I think it may be in part to the discussions it spurns, specifically your thoughts.
I agree with you about Gaius's almost reluctancy to become president. His scene with Six in the corridor had to be one of my favorite ever. The artist in me loved the filming, especially the angels and the colors used to convey his unbalanced mental state.
I'm excited about next weeks episode. Although I'll miss it due to a concert I'm going to. But they're showing it again on Mondays (which is a day I have class but I might have to leave early to see Apollo).
Excellent points.

Oh yay! I love BSG. It's very 'thinky' and it just *begs* to be discussed. I'm glad you're enjoying it too.

Yes, it was very interesting that Gaius was uncomfortable with power. And the shooting of the scene in the corridor was amazing. That sense of him being really on the edge was so well done. That actor is amazing to carry it off so well.

Yes, I'm very excited about this week's ep too! I am off to the beach this weekend but I will set my computer to download so it'll be there when I get back I hope. Eee! That and the 100th SV ep make for exciting viewing. *g*

I made five new icons this afternoon but forgot I needed a BSG one. I wonder where is a good place to get BSG screencaps ( ... )

Here we go: gratuitous BSG icon post. (Though the screencap was kind of grainy, unfortunately--I need to find a better source.) But I'm kind of happy with the color--I lightened it a lot and changed some of the tones. I now spend a lot of time making icons that never see the light of day, playing with color etc.

Oh yeah! That's a popular shot for iconage! It's very pretty, and so squeeful and glowy! I know there is a good BSG screencap place--I'll track it down... Your icons are definitely improving! All that playing around is paying off--how cool!
