Since my new cube faces the water, and my chair is about 20 feet from the water's edge, I'm seeing all kinds of interesting birds at work now. There's a number of diving ducks that hang around (mostly mergansers and scoters), not to mention a couple of kingfishers and great blue herons. And lots of Canada geese and seagulls. But it's dead now. As in, men with chainsaws and stump grinders came and took it away. We're about halfway through building a new fence now, and I'll post up some pictures when we get around to putting them in. I found the latest Boeing issue (bad wing root connection design, requiring months more delay for repairs) somewhat comforting. If hundreds of engineers working on the most critical joint in the plane still managed to screw it up, I feel better about my occasional mistakes ( Read more... )

The electric car uses about 0.39 kWh/mile, averaged over a month of use. With our electric rates at just shy of 8 cents/kWh, that gives us a cost of 3.1 cents/mile. Or if you look at it the other way, a 40 MPG car would have an equivalent gasoline cost of $1.24/gallon.
