The Hummer.

Tink pointed out that I have not told anyone about Mike Backhome and Christmas, Mom's boyfriend. He came for Christmas and POOR CHRISTY. They stayed at her house. (PS: I think this is totally weird and don't understand why Mom thinks Christy wants a complete stranger LIVING in her house for a week.) Chris had to work but I went down and stayed the ( Read more... )

I've decided to use my role of Hilarious Drunk Neighbor as an excuse to get truth-telling drunk with your mom and ask her if she had a stroke and has brain damage now.

I don't give a shit how old you are or they are, your kids ALWAYS, ALWAYS come first, and you sure as shit do NOT make one of your children the butt of jokes with your new fucking boyfriend.

I read this open-mouthed (I know, easy pickings) and am not pleased at all that this is going on. I agree with Tink completely on this, as well. Ugh, why is she being such a douche?!

This is the same kind of behavior we were seeing out of my mom before we had our "you are drinking too much b/c you are unhappy with your life" intervention. Thankfully things are way better with her. Until your Mom acknowledges that her actions are a problem (I'm not talking about drinking, just being a jerk in general and putting you down to feel good about herself), you should just protect yourself however you can. If she's "happy" with Sir Sucks-a-lot, she can just spend all her time with him. Humpf.

She has a mask she puts on. She did it when Dad died so she could pretend everything was alright. It is strictly for appearances and others' benefit.

I don't know. Maybe she's putting on the mask because she doesn't know how to act with Mike? This is the first/only guy since Dad so I can imagine it's weird for her. She doesn't know how to act "normal" around him and so acts like she's acting normal. It doesn't seem like a good way to build a relationship but I am hoping she will become comfortable around him and eventually act like a normal person.

My Mom does that too...it's like they can't face whatever it is, so they go all fake to deal. I think you and I are much more adept at expressing our feelings (obviously).

I'm sorry the impact is largely negative on you, and I hope she can get over this hump and start to just be herself. It's a much more satisfying way to live.

Hugs to you!

I thought of something else funny about Mike. He loves gummy candy, like gummy bears. Except he called them "goomy" bears. It goes like this:
Mike: oh I love goomy bears!
Me: gummy bears? You like gummy bears?
Mike: I do. I love goomy bears. Goomy bears are delicious.
