Anons, you have successfully tempted me into writing something that I really shouldn't be writing. The request this is responding to was somewhere in part 9, but I can't find it, anymore, but the basics are as follows ( ... )

After the fourth cup of coffee to the head, Phoenix probably should have called it a day; it was only the first part of his client’s trial and it would be easy to buy a third day, if need be, but goddamn it, there was an old record down here that would help his case, and he knew it! So, instead of going home and finding an ice pack like any sane human being, he was lurking in the courtroom library, looking for material he hadn’t seen since his college days. It just figured that this would be an evening case, too; it left little time to immediately follow up on leads, and meant that there was a feeling of impending doom (read: closing) when it came to the library.

Oh, and then there was Maya.

“Niiiiick, this is boring! Are we done yet?” The young woman whined, giving her companion a pleading look ( ... )

As she made her way back down the stairs, Maya sighed; she was headed to the library, again, ready to drag Phoenix out of the courtroom if need be. She knew he was only trying to help their client, but the trial would go fine without whatever he was trying to look up… The medium grinned sheepishly to herself; honestly, she didn’t even know what he was trying to find-she just knew that it was an exercise in futility. Better to go home and get some rest-take care of the mug-induced headache he’d been complaining about-in order to give one-hundred percent in tomorrow’s trial, as opposed to staying up to ridiculous hours trying to find some random piece of information ( ... )

“Diego!”

Godot froze, shocked for several different reasons. One, of course, was the fact that somebody knew his real name and had the nerve to call him by it… but that detail, and all of the others, paled in comparison to the source of the painfully familiar voice.

He half turned and, at the sight of the feminine figure, narrowed his eyes behind his visor. It wasn’t really her, he knew that, but the voice had been enough to make him pause. As he returned to the pitiful display before him, he heard long strides from the other side of the room, and found himself forcefully spun around to face the illusion.

“Diego,” Not-Mia hissed, eyes narrowed furiously, “You have to stop. Phoenix didn’t do anything to deserve this.”

Godot snorted and made a move to tear his arm out of her surprisingly strong grip, “You’re not real-how would you know what Trite doesn’t deserve?”

“He’s engaged to the real top prosecutor in the country; no matter how good you used to be at defending, you won’t get away with a crime you actually committed.” It was ( ... )

While Diego-or Godot, or whatever that idiot was calling himself, these days-stared into space, Mia took the opportunity to free Phoenix from the older man’s grip; it wasn’t a hard task to accomplish, given the prosecutor’s distraction. What was difficult was supporting her former apprentice-God, it was still hard to think that they were related, sometimes-until she’d put an acceptable distance between them and the only other conscious party in the library. After a moment’s consideration, she settled herself on the ground, careful not to jostle the other, and rested the young man’s head on her lap.

Mia bit her lip as she took in his injuries: most of the blood was coming from his nose, which had probably been broken, and he already had the beginnings of a black eye. The only other thing that she could say for certain, just by looking the lawyer over, was that his arm was definitely broken. She had to turn away when she caught sight of the red smear on her-Maya’s-robes, and it occurred to her that it was her son’s blood spattered ( ... )

Continued directly from the last bit-- sorry.
-----

There was a stony silence from the defense attorney-turned-prosecutor, and Mia felt her shoulders sag; there was no way she could force Diego to understand her plight. He probably didn’t even want to understand-it was hard to read his expression, with that visor hiding half of his face.

With a mental apology to Maya, Mia hugged the injured young man closer to herself and made one last plea, “If you’re still angry, take it out on me and leave Phoenix out of it. He didn’t do anything wrong that really mattered.”

“He let you die!” Diego roared, apparently forgetting that he didn’t believe in all of that ‘channeling hocus-pocus’, “Being your son-in theory-only makes that crime worse ( ... )

I really like where you're going with this, and I'm looking forward to the chapter.

But a quick tip: in the future, you can post fills to old prompts at the original prompt. It will keep the meme and the archive neater, and the good folks at anon_press will make sure that the fills on old parts of the meme get noticed.

Captcha says "degti downers", so I guess it thinks I'm being too hard on you. D: Don't let this discourage you from posting, anonthor, this fill is great.

Thank you! I'll get right on that... though the sentiment probably doesn't mean much, given the fact that I'm replying about a week late. ^^;;;
