Apparently, I'm a Republican.

I can't believe I'm taking a class that makes bleeding heart liberal communist me look an oppressor. It's an intro to rape--I mean, women and gender studies class, and am I ever ready for it to be over ( Read more... )

Yeesh, I'm glad I'm not in that class. FWIW I'm on your side on pretty much all these.

My sister was a women's studies major and apparently she had enough classes like this to turn her into a card-carrying O'Reilly-believing Republican.

In college I had a friend with severe spina bifida; her legs were stunted and she couldn't actually use them. She thought the term "differently abled" was ridiculous bordering on patronizing. As she put it, "Differently-abled? Really? What can I do that the average person can't?"

Your teacher sounds like someone who would turn any logic appreciating feminist (read as "believer in civil rights for all"... because really, feminism is s subsection of civil rights) into a hair pulling, eyes bulging, fire breathing mad woman. Is it bad that I wish I could come to class with you ( ... )

Can't stop laughing... you might be a feminist whether you know it or not... and a quite hilarious one at that ;)

Sometimes Tony says that I am the female you and I have never thought it so true as just now... reading this post.

I'm glad you brought up chemical factors in rape because, while I implied it with my mention of college campuses, I did not explicitly mention it. I just assumed that people knew that's one of the reasons the rates are so high on college campuses. And, statistics show that the rates even vary from college to college and are higher on campuses where binge drinking is more prevalent. But, one could argue that binge drinking is a cultural phenomenon... leading us right back to a cultural epidemic. ;)

AMEN BROTHER.
Exactly...
I *might* be able to express it better, but I don't have that much energy after 2 days of early mornings and scuba training. hehe

I'm getting a terrific vision of you suggesting a new term for disabled each day.

"Excuse me, how about the term alternabled?"

"How about physiospecialized?"

"I think it's offensive to call them different. Can't we just pretend the difference does not exist? So productive that way."
