i know there are lots of you on my flist who are seriously fucking GOOD with money - good at saving, good at spending (well, i'm GREAT at that), good at finding deals. i am not one of those people.

i know gemmabowles was having a gripe a while back about ppl who live paycheck to paycheck. unfortunately, i'm pretty much one of THOSE people. as my friend ( Read more... )

Some people have to live pay check to pay check. I know I do now! I never used to when I worked at there bridges but now I had taken the pay cut I have to. Nothing I can do about it.

Sounds like you have a good plan in action about when to pay what. Sadly these days the only way to do any better than you already are would be to shop around for cheaper food, other items and use the car less to reduce petrol useage. Can't think of anything else to suggest.

This is the first step- just record what you spend. A few things you could maybe cut back on will probably present themselves. I stopped buying lunch and started packing a box of salad each day and I think that halved my lunch costs, little things like that can add up. Also being a bit careful to change credit cards so you stay with the best deals, potentially switching your phone to pay-as-you-go looking at regular expenses and finding ways to cut them, they all add up...

i think it's the same with a new diet too, lol. i haven't ever changed credit cards before - is it easier than changing banks?

Really watch how often you change your credit cards as changing frequently will lower your credit rating. If you pay your cards off each month anyway, it doesn't matter what the interest rate is...

But in that case it is worth getting one with some kind of cashback deal or similar cos you get a bit more extra for your spending in that circumstance.

yeah, i'm paycheck to paycheck also. i thought by getting a permanent job i wouldn't have to anymore, but i get paid LESS now than i did when i had a temp job. :/ i literally have NO money beyond bills (especially now that i'm paying Ripley's med bills and my own).

honestly, and for once i'm thankful for this, my parents are letting me live in their house rent free right now. takes a HUGE load off my shoulders (even though i desperately want to be on my own).

grocery shopping has become like it was when it was just me and mom back when i was a youngin: Ramen Noodles all around.

Doesnt that suck? i know of similar stories - permanent is good cos you have security but ()*!@#$ no room to move.

i'm glad ur parents are letting you live rent free. it's easier to get on your feet if you have a chance in the first place.

and i WOULD be eating 2minute noodles (i guess that's the same as ramen?) but they are so high in all the things that are so WRONG for me, i just can't eat them. and unlike others, i really LIKE noodles, lol.
