Its interesting to see the prices you pay in Oz...some things are cheaper, and others much more expensive from the looks of things.

My money situation is fairly tenuous as well...student loans to cover some of my living expenses and my part-time job. Sage's board is free at the moment thanks to my mother. I still buy shavings and grain for both horses, but its not nearly as much as board was at other places.

My food allergies are a double-edged sword monetarily. The food that is gluten free, dairy free, soy free and egg free is generally very expensive. On the other hand, I can't really have desserts much at all, *no* alcohol, and I bring my food wherever I go...there is literally *no* eating take-out or going to a restaurant. Despite the very expensive groceries, I do think I save money by never eating take-out or buying lunch. I have a few oversized mason jars that I pack leftovers in and a few pieces of camping silverware (you know the stuff that's plastic but much sturdier?) in my office.

I honestly think the thing that suffers most from my lack of finances is my social life. I go over to friends' houses for potlucks or to have tea or whatnot but very very rarely do we go to concerts together or a movie or something that costs money...

Also, we belong to Costco, which is a warehouse store...I would guess you have something similar in Australia. We save a ton of money by going there and buying things in bulk. *S0* much cheaper than the regular grocery store and the food is higher quality- its where the restaurants buy all their stuff. Our freezer is usually a bit overburdened, but otherwise it works out really well.

I also have a cell phone that accepts text messages but is so ancient I literally cannot send one. And I hang onto that phone for dear life because I really don't need to pay for texting ppl.

Last but not least, I have about the tiniest car on the planet, and its very gas efficient. That saves me a ton of money considering the distance I drive to my job and to see Sage...
