Doctor Who

Can someone recommend the absolute best episodes, perhaps one or two? I just finished watching the first one, 'Rose', and, well, I thought it was stupid. I don't want to judge an entire show based on one episode, though, so this is why I'm asking for the best. Is this episode even considered good to fans or is this akin to judging all of Star Trek ( Read more... )

I rather like The Empty Child (109) and The Doctor Dances (110).

but, ok, I'm only a casual watcher of Doctor Who and a DW fan could totally give me flak for this but you could just jump to the newest season with the new Doctor, if you already know the basics. Season 5 is the season I've most enjoyed and it's the same for my siblings who are also casual watchers, plus it doesn't have that whole Rose storyline which I am not the biggest fan of. Maybe watch the first ep of S5 and see if you find it more interesting?

I would second the "just start with S5". Since there's a new Doctor, a new head writer, and new companions in S5, you don't have to be really familiar with S1 - S4 to watch it. I liked S1 - S4, but S5 is consistently the best.

Also, Amy Pond > Rose Tyler.

Noted! I think, in the end, that I'll try the other two doctors, just to get a feel for them.

Well, at least I know if I end up not liking it, I shall have a couple of companions. :) I find that I'm not big on science fiction in general, so it takes some damn interesting characters and awesome storylines to get me into sci-fi.

I'm going to say "Blink" too. But first, I'm going to seriously split infinitives go tl;dr. And rambly ( ... )

I just don't get Doctor Who. I mean. I have tried. I'm a huge geek. I'm British. I should be into it, right? But. I mostly feel like it's kind of stupid without realising that it's kind of stupid and thus being tongue in cheek about it. Old Doctor Who I can almost get away with, because it embraces its own badness, but, yeah. No.

it is campy, but have a lot of great moments and you finish loving the campyness

i think you don't see tenth and the master and that it is the problem

watch "The Desert planet" is more classic twinlight zone episode meets the dcotor

I'm giving it a valiant shot, but I'm happy that if I don't like it, I shall have companions. It definitely looks like I won't be into the fandom, even if I do like it, but as for just watching, well, I'll try a couple more doctors and see how that goes. :)

I agree with verselle that "The Empty Child" and "The Doctor Dances" are probably the two best episodes from the first season. Nine was never my favorite Doctor. I don't think he had a real grasp on who the Doctor was and Christopher Eccleston mentioned in a few interviews that he never watched the show growing up and I think that makes a big difference on his performance compared to the performances of David Tennant and Matt Smith ( ... )

Hoo lord, a lot to look over, lol! I watched "New Earth" and it was all right, but then I watched "Blink" and LOVED it, so maybe there's hope for me at least liking the series a little. I'll have to check more out before I judge, though. :)
