Doctor Who

Can someone recommend the absolute best episodes, perhaps one or two? I just finished watching the first one, 'Rose', and, well, I thought it was stupid. I don't want to judge an entire show based on one episode, though, so this is why I'm asking for the best. Is this episode even considered good to fans or is this akin to judging all of Star Trek ( Read more... )

I agree with verselle that "The Empty Child" and "The Doctor Dances" are probably the two best episodes from the first season. Nine was never my favorite Doctor. I don't think he had a real grasp on who the Doctor was and Christopher Eccleston mentioned in a few interviews that he never watched the show growing up and I think that makes a big difference on his performance compared to the performances of David Tennant and Matt Smith.

Getting into Ten's run, I'd suggest watching "The Christmas Invasion" which is the Christmas special before season two and pretty much introduces Ten. Season two episodes I suggest watching are "The Girl in the Fireplace" and the two parter "The Impossible Planet/The Satan Pit".

Season 3 introduced Martha Jones as the new companion and if Rose is sort of annoying to you, you might like Martha a bit better. I personally didn't care for a lot of the episodes during the 3rd season though, but I really liked "The Shakespeare Code" and "Blink" is a must see!

Season 4 brought back Donna Noble as a companion (she had a small part in the Christmas special after the second season) and this is currently my favorite season of all. Donna was an excellent match as a companion for Ten and the episodes were just fantastic in this. I suggest watching "Partners in Crime", "The Unicorn and the Wasp" and for sure the two parter "Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead".

Between seasons 4 and 5, there were four specials that featured Ten, before his transformation into the Eleventh Doctor. I wasn't really thrilled by any of them, but the last one "The End of Time". I don't suggest watching it since there's a lot of back story to it that you would need to have been familiar with to completely enjoy it.

Season 5 introduced Matt Smith as the Eleventh Doctor and so far I've really enjoyed this season as well. Matt Smith is just great and in ways I like him a lot better than David Tennant. Episodes to look into would be "Victory of the Daleks", "The Vampires of Venice" and "Vincent and the Doctor".

I know I've given a lot of suggestions for each season (I'm so sorry!), but it's so hard for me to just pick my favorites overall lol. It's best to divide them by seasons. I do highly, highly suggest watching "Blink" for sure. It's an odd episode, because you actually don't see the Doctor and Martha in it all that much, but it's a fantastically written episode (one of Steven Moffat's finest) and is one of the episodes I always suggest for people to watch when getting into Doctor Who (it's actually the episode that turned one of my friends on to the series).

Hoo lord, a lot to look over, lol! I watched "New Earth" and it was all right, but then I watched "Blink" and LOVED it, so maybe there's hope for me at least liking the series a little. I'll have to check more out before I judge, though. :)
