TGS and Autumn Equinox

On Friday I went to Tokyo Game Show, and while it was fun, it's definitely smaller than E3, as I was able to see everything I wanted in only one day. It was mostly worth it, even though PS3 wasn't playable :( I did get to play some good stuff though, and man was there a tonne of stuff for mobile phones. That night I also started to pack / try to ( Read more... )

Did they have the Revolution there, and did you get to try out the new controller? What's the deal with that? It seems like you're supposed to use it as one of the 3D joysticks that never seemed to catch on.

nope - even though Nintendo Pres. Iwata gave the keynote and showed the controller - Nintendo never has a booth at TGS - they have their own event called SpaceWorld each year. I think the Rev controller is wacked, but we'll see I guess.

Heh, that seems awfully snooty of them. ;-) Yeah, I'm not yet sold on the Revo controller, but I can definitely see the potential. Console controllers haven't changed much since the original NES: two-handed operation, some sort of directional pad, multiple action buttons, perhaps the additional of a secondary directional controller, etc. This seems to be the logical extension of having tilt sensors (and I always tilt the controller around when playing driving games, as if it would help control the car)... full 3D pitch, yaw and translate motion.

Just watch, they will come out with a new version of DDR (and maybe play off the word "Revolution" in both products) where you strap a Revo controller to each ankle, and thus eliminate the need for the dance pad...

Yeah, Nintendo's funny that way

I hear ya...
"strap a Revo controller to each ankle" is the best comment on it I've heard so far - you should post that idea in nintendo_rev and see everyone flip out over it ;)
