Here is a transcribed essay from Susan, a middle schooler in one of my classes. I have tried to write it exactly as she wrote it. It is part of my job to edit the older kids' essays. Lost in Translation
The other night, I was taking a walk, trying to figure out the basic layout of the streets around my apartment in Gwangju, when a drunk businessman stopped me on the side walk holding out his hand and saying hello. I'm a god damn teacher
Today was my first day teaching my own classes. My first class was ridiculous. They are third or fourth graders, and most of the class has discipline issues. It has been an exiciting time the past couple of weeks. The night before I left for Korea, I slept at my little sister's place. I arrived at Hartsfield at about five in the morning. Major changes
I will be moving to Gwangju, Sounth Korea in about three weeks to teach English to elementary to high school age children. I think my exact departure date in June 13th. I will be there for a year. I put my two weeks notice in at Target today; I am really excited about all of this. -

A good week
I had this previous week off of work, which was glorious. I spent a lot of it fucking around and doing nothing, but I also spent a good portion of my time looking for a new job and applying and interviewing.
