Meisa was in the middle of blow-drying her hair when she thought she heard a knock. Deciding to check in case it was Maki, she went to open the door in her bathrobe. Hopefully it was Maki, Meisa would die in shame if it were a guy at her door. Thankfully it was the birthday girl, so Meisa opened the door with a grin. "Maki! Hi, come in! Happy Birthday!" She pulled the other girl inside. "Go ahead and put your stuff on my bed. Feel at home!"
Earlier Meisa had decided to wear the blue sheath dress she had bought yesterday at Nino's suggestion. It should be dressy enough for where they were planning to go. "Let me finish blow drying my hair really quick and change. There's a mirror by the bookshelf if you need it!"
"What time were we going to meet Nino?" She called out from the bathroom.
"Hi! Thank you!" Maki replied back with a rather sheepish smile, heading in and glancing around to take in the place before she located Meisa's bed and went to toss her things there. She immediately started rooting through her duffel for her make-up bag, brush, all the things she would need to start making herself more presentable.
"I told him between 7 and 8. I hope he doesn't get there before us, but we have a little time yet. I figured we could take a cab over there?" Already kicking off her sneakers and tugging off her socks, Maki took a moment to check that her toenail polish was still intact before she padded over to Meisa's mirror to start fixing her hair and applying her make-up.
Though the purse was the same, Maki had chosen a different dress than the one she had worn to Ohno's show. The one she wore tonight with a rather vibrant red, and while her nails were their usual french-tipped, the dress matched her toenail polish exactly.
Meisa finished blow drying her hair before pulling on the dress. She walked out of the bathroom with her makeup bag and walked up to Maki. "Bathroom's free if you need it, I'll do my make up out here." As she finished applying her makeup, Meisa caught sight of her nails and noticed that one of them had a chip in the nail polish. "Damn, do you think I have time to redo my nail?" She held it out to Maki for inspection.
"Cab, yes! Is the place very far from here?" Meisa pulled out her silver clutch and stuffed her wallet, her phone and keys in them. "Definitely not bringing my pager with me tonight. I'm not on call and they promised not to page me."
"Do you think I should wear silver flats or black heels? And should I bring a shawl in case it's cold?"
Maki was actually pretty quick at this, for as little as she took the time to do it. She had her make-up complete, and only had to finish fiddling with her hair to get her bangs pulled back with a barrette. "Thanks, I'll finish my hair in there, and I should pee before we go," she mused, heading toward the bathroom but spinning at Meisa's question to examine the nail

Deciding to avoid any further lateness by waiting for the subway or a bus, Ohno grabbed a taxi as soon as curtain had been called on the show. He'd brought a nice outfit with him and after showering off he'd changed into the dark slacks, light blue dress shirt and matching dark jacket. His loafers were shined perfectly and he looked sharp.
He was going to be seen tonight at a popular bar with three very beautiful people, he had to look the part. He sprayed on cologne and grabbed his bag, stopping briefly to pick a pink rose from one of the bouquets lining the dressing room. Had he time, he would have gotten her a proper arrangement, but he figured getting there was more important
( ... )
Nino looked up as soon as Ohno walked into the restaurant, smiling. Ohno found them a second later. Nino smiled, watching Ohno offer Maki a rose (which had no doubt come from his flowers from the show). He held out his arms as Ohno came to him, and leaned into the kiss offered.
"Missed you, too," he murmured. "Maki really liked the purse. She hasn't opened it yet, though."
Maki turned pink to match the flower Ohno handed her, but smiled fairly brightly that he had finally arrived. It was nice to have him there. "Thank you!"
She brought the rose to tickle at her nose for a sniff, turning a smile over to Meisa as she offered it out for her to smell as well. "And thank you for the bag, it's beautiful, Nino said it was from you too. I'm sorry you weren't there when I opened it."
Unthinkingly, Maki reached for a sip of her punch as Ohno greeted Nino properly (for them), and she still watched them from behind her lashes. She shot a look at Meisa as well, the hint of a smirk playing about her lips in a look that said so clearly Aren't they adorable? without actually saying anything aloud.
Meisa was also smiling brightly as Ohno walked up to their table. "Satoshi! Hi! Thank you for the tickets by the way!" His compliment caused her cheeks to turn pink, just a little. She could blame that on the alcohol.
She leaned over when Maki offered her a sniff of the rose. It smelled sweet and light. Meisa went to pass Ohno a plate and a glass of punch when she caught Maki's eye. She had to swallow a giggle as she shot back Very much so with a look and smirk of her own.
Nino had been to weddings in the past - mostly in an out-of-sight capacity, either because he'd been sneaking in curiously or because he was known as a fay. He'd never been to the parties that preceded or followed the weddings.
The games that Meisa described, however, sounded hilarious. Nino laughed, leaning into Ohno's shoulder as he did. He helped himself to another forkful of the crisp pork belly. He nodded as he did. "The punch is good and all, but if Maki's ready to move on, going back to your place sounds great."
Cock tiara. Maki mouthed the words after Meisa had said them with a stunned sort of look on her face. That was a new image for her. She had to laugh, because the scene Meisa presented was pretty much hilarious, and not so far removed from some of the chaos that went on on her shows.
"I think..." Maki started calmly, staring at the last few sips of her punch and thinking that it had disappeared rather fast. Oh right, she was talking. She glanced up quickly with a slight blush. "Think we should get me back before I can't stand up in these heels." Actually, that was probably already the case but Maki was reluctant to rise to her feet and give it a shot.
Ever the doctor, Meisa pushed a glass of water towards Maki. "Here, drink, rehydrate yourself." She almost offered to turn Maki's heels into ballet flats but stopped. Maki didn't know Meisa was a half-witch yet and revealing that in public probably wasn't such a good idea.
As she looked around for someone to bring them their check, Meisa muttered a stabilizing spell to the heels (something her older sisters had taught her when she first started wearing heels). She caught Ohno and Nino's eyes and pleaded with her own. Please don't say anything! I'll tell her when we get home!
Ohno caught the magic, but he also caught the look Meisa gave him - he wouldn't tell. He knew Nino was fairly hidden with his own magic (and justifiably so, given the scars on his back).
Pulling out his wallet, Ohno passed Meisa a fairly large bill to cover some of the cost of the liquor as well as their own food- the punch alone had been $40 a bowl and he'd been one of the biggest drinkers of it.
"Don't worry Maki-chan, I'll carry you home," he winked and reached over, patting her hand. "But Meisa-chan is right, drink up. It'll help."
With Meisa leaning so far she was practically falling - and then she actually did fall - Nino had no choice but to lean heavily on Ohno. He let his head rest on Ohno's shoulder, laughing loudly when Ohno's face turned red enough to see even in the darkness of night. He stroked Meisa's hair gently - it was really soft.
"Oh, yes," he agreed in a sotto voice, "I think we could manage a chick flick quite nicely in such good company."
Maki was giggling down at Meisa, utterly amused when her gaze flickered up to catch Ohno's face turning red. She didn't get why at first but it sunk in pretty quickly and she had to hide her face in his shoulder as another wave of laughter hit her.
The poor cab driver was probably...well maybe he was used to things like this. Maki was so not used to this, friends and laughter and togetherness. It was exciting.
"Is there anything you two wouldn't do for a little snuggling?" she teased them both somewhat muffled and peeking out at everyone with one eye from where she was hiding.
With all the attention on Ohno and Nino petting her hair, Meisa didn't want to get up. It was comfy lying down across Nino and Ohno's lap and Meisa was about to say so when the cab stopped. She winked at Maki as she tilted her head back to look out Maki's window, it looked like they had arrived at her apartment. Meisa pouted before shifting so that she could sit back up on her side.
"Let's go! Maki's cake, champagne, cuddling and a chick flick are awaiting us!" Meisa cried after they had paid the cab driver. She hooked her arm around Maki's and urged her friend to skip with her towards her building, laughing all the way.
Free of the girls, Ohno took a moment to adjust, blushing furiously at Nino. "I couldn't help it," he whispered to his boyfriend, wrapping an arm around his lower waist as they followed the girls up to Meisa's apartment.
The building, and the area were nice. Not super rich-looking like Sho's was, but also definitely not like their place. He liked it and felt like it fit Meisa well.
"Sure," Nino agreed easily, standing and following Meisa towards the kitchen.
He watched her gesture up to the cabinet that held the glasses and nodded to himself, getting four of them down. Rather than wrestle with the cork in the champagne bottle, Nino brought the glasses and champagne back out to the coffee table and flicked a finger at it. The cork popped out with an appropriate, resounding sound, and Nino poured the champagne into the glasses before the foam could get everywhere.
He missed Meisa asking Maki not to freak out in the middle of pouring, handing a glass to Ohno and taking one for himself. "Whatever you want to watch is fine with me."
Champagne. Possibly not a bright idea. Still Maki didn't see how she could say no, it was her birthday! So she raised her hand a little when Meisa asked who was having some.
She did send Meisa a little bit of a look, lips pursing. "You're forcing cake on me?" She was comfortable snuggled against Ohno while they tried to decide on a DVD, beaming at him rather brightly at his choice. "It's my very favorite romantic comedy. It's very funny."
Maki managed to finally get her heels off, and rose to her feet (only swaying just a little). She was about to go find her pajamas when Meisa was asking her not to freak out and Maki stood like a deer in headlights trying to figure out what she wasn't supposed to freak out over. "Huh?"
"I, uh, just watch," Meisa told Maki as she turned towards the bed to make it bigger. She said the spell that she thought would make it bigger but watched in embarrassment as her bed shrunk from a full to a twin. "Um... that wasn't supposed to happen. Let me call my mom really quick."
Meisa searched for her phone in her purse and pulled it out, pressing the speed dial for her mom. "Please pick up, please pick up," she chanted as the phone rang.
"Hello?""Hi Mom? What's the spell that'll make the bed bigger? Enough to fit four people?" Meisa's mom pummeled her with questions about why she needed a bed to fit four people. Meisa blushed as she answered. "I'm not drunk! Just, tipsy a bit... I'm having a sort of sleepover." No need for her mom to know that Ohno and Nino were going to be sleeping over and they weren't girls, that would cause more questions Meisa didn't want to answer at the moment. "The spell Mom, please? We're going to be watching a movie soon
( ... )
Ohno was glad his choice in movie was well-received and he beamed a little at Maki for it. "Then we'll watch that one."
He took his glass from Nino and sipped it slowly, pulling the fay down against him to snuggle a bit. He had a feeling he knew what Meisa was planning on doing, though it hadn't occurred to him that Maki didn't know Meisa was a witch until now.
