With Meisa leaning so far she was practically falling - and then she actually did fall - Nino had no choice but to lean heavily on Ohno. He let his head rest on Ohno's shoulder, laughing loudly when Ohno's face turned red enough to see even in the darkness of night. He stroked Meisa's hair gently - it was really soft.

"Oh, yes," he agreed in a sotto voice, "I think we could manage a chick flick quite nicely in such good company."

Maki was giggling down at Meisa, utterly amused when her gaze flickered up to catch Ohno's face turning red. She didn't get why at first but it sunk in pretty quickly and she had to hide her face in his shoulder as another wave of laughter hit her.

The poor cab driver was probably...well maybe he was used to things like this. Maki was so not used to this, friends and laughter and togetherness. It was exciting.

"Is there anything you two wouldn't do for a little snuggling?" she teased them both somewhat muffled and peeking out at everyone with one eye from where she was hiding.

With all the attention on Ohno and Nino petting her hair, Meisa didn't want to get up. It was comfy lying down across Nino and Ohno's lap and Meisa was about to say so when the cab stopped. She winked at Maki as she tilted her head back to look out Maki's window, it looked like they had arrived at her apartment. Meisa pouted before shifting so that she could sit back up on her side.

"Let's go! Maki's cake, champagne, cuddling and a chick flick are awaiting us!" Meisa cried after they had paid the cab driver. She hooked her arm around Maki's and urged her friend to skip with her towards her building, laughing all the way.

Free of the girls, Ohno took a moment to adjust, blushing furiously at Nino. "I couldn't help it," he whispered to his boyfriend, wrapping an arm around his lower waist as they followed the girls up to Meisa's apartment.

The building, and the area were nice. Not super rich-looking like Sho's was, but also definitely not like their place. He liked it and felt like it fit Meisa well.

"Oi! Wait for us!"

"I probably wouldn't sell myself," Nino told Maki thoughtfully, "But that's not a guaranteed thing."

He laughed as they all stumbled out of the taxi. The driver sped away. He felt Ohno's arm pull him back and leaned - albeit he leaned carefully; he didn't want to have Ohno falling over in the middle of the street because of his dead weight. They were a really, really silly group. Nino loved it.

He turned to kiss Ohno's cheek. "Could anybody?" he asked, teasing. "Come on, before they leave us behind."

"It's negotiable!" Maki chimed at Nino, tongue getting hung up a little on the word. Just the tiniest bit slurred, is all.

Then Meisa got hold of her arm and began skipping them toward the doors and Maki laughed helplessly and struggled to keep up. She stumbled over her heels a couple of times, even with the stabilizing charm, but it kept her from falling over outright, that and Meisa's arm hooked with hers.

She cast a look over her shoulder at Ohno's call, her smile easy. "Hurry up then!"

The alcohol was affecting Meisa more than she thought it would, and it took a little bit of fumbling to get the key into the lock into the building, but once she did, Meisa led their little troupe up the stairs to her studio.

Once they were all inside, she kicked off her flats and threw her purse on the bed. Meisa grabbed Maki's present and held it out. "I hope you like it," she said shyly. "I'll go get the cake, um, Satoshi, can you grab my camera on the bookshelf?"

Meisa got the cake and was putting the candles around it when she realized that she didn't have any matches to light them. "Um, Nino?" she called from the kitchen. "Can you come in here for a minute?" Maybe he would know how to light candles.

The warmth of Meisa's apartment was quite inviting by the time their rag-tag group made it up there. His shoes joined Meisa's and he followed her direction to the camera. It was nice, though somehow Ohno wished he'd thought to bring his old Polaroid. It always seemed to take the most meaningful pictures.

Oh well, at least this way they'd all have a copy.

Camera in hand, Ohno found a seat in the beanbag that held Maki to await the cake, his head pillowed on her shoulder. He smiled up at her. "Open it! I'm curious, too."

Meisa's place was nice. Not terribly big, but one couldn't expect much from a New York studio. It was clean, however, and decorated to be homey but functional. It was perhaps not entirely lived in, but with a job like Meisa's that was to be expected, and Nino thought it suited Meisa well.

He was admiring it while Meisa gave out orders and snapped to attention at the sound of his name. "Me? Oh, yeah, sure."

He left Ohno searching for Meisa's camera and wandered into the kitchen, poking his head in first. "What's the trouble?"

There was no way Maki was getting her heels off standing up. Present in hand and a grateful sort of flush on her cheeks, Maki headed over to plop down on the nearest beanbag chair and start to fumble concentratedly with the buckles. This was so much easier when she was sober.

Giving up on them for the moment and just leaving them on as Ohno came to join her on the beanbag, Maki sent him a small, amused smile and rolled her eyes. "Alright, alright."

Her fingers worked a little less delicately now to open the paper. She ripped it, and then deciding there was just no helping it now and her coordination was not what it needed to be to do this right, just ripped into it, revealing a white box that Maki then opened. What she pulled out, a beautiful cream-colored fabric dotted with clusters of red strawberries, revealed itself to be a dress as she unfolded it. A vintage dress with cuffed sleeves.

Maki gasped. "Oh my- Meisa! It's beautiful! I love it!" And she did, instantly. It was something she would pick out for herself.

When Nino poked his head into the kitchen, Meisa turned from where she was frowning at the candles to smile sheepishly at him. "I forgot to buy matches, and I don't know any fire spells. Do you have any idea how we can light the candles? The stove's electric, otherwise I'd have used that."

That was probably a good thing in Meisa's current tipsy state, no need to burn the whole building down.

Hearing Maki call out that she liked the present had Meisa blushing. "Thanks for your help Nino," she smiled at him before calling out to Maki, "I'm glad! I hope you don't have anything like it yet!"

Ohno watched with a smile as Maki opened the dress. He'd known what Meisa had gotten thanks to Nino, but he'd yet to see it. Despite seeing a dress Maki obviously adored, he still really didn't trust his own fashion choices to get her one.

Perhaps for Christmas he'd just take her shopping. That seemed like a good plan.

He reached out and touched the fabric gently, feeling the soft material under his fingers. "Ah, it's really nice!" he said softly, aware of his proximity to Maki's ear and not wanting to deafen the poor girl when she was drunk. "We should take Maki-chan somewhere so she can wear it," he added with a smirk.

Nino smiled, tipping Meisa a wink. They'd done good. Meisa more than him - she'd already had the two dresses out when he'd arrived. Now. To the problem of the cake.

Which was a non-problem, really. Nino stuck his hand out over the candles. "Las."

He didn't have to say anything, but words often served as a warning to another party. It helped them be ready for things - like, for instance, the candles on a cake all lighting as one. Nino's throat constricted tightly as they did. It released once they were flickering gently. Nino cleared his throat as subtly as he could and smiled over at Meisa.

"There we go," he said. "Let's have cake."

"No, nothing!" Maki called back to Meisa, she had never seen a dress like this in a shop or she would have jumped right on it. "It's wonderful!"

Maki watched Ohno feel at the dress, and she couldn't help the faint shiver from his voice at her ear, giggling at it, because she was still drunk. "Somewhere? With you guys?" she questioned quietly with a hint of a smile.

That sounded like fun.

Perhaps not as delicately as she would have sober, Maki folded the dress back up and laid it carefully back in the box, replacing the top and setting it beside her beanbag. With her hands now free, she went about attempting to get her shoes off once more.

Meisa beamed at Nino in gratitude. "Thank you."

Picking up the platter the cake was on, she gestured to the plates and forks on the counter. "Do you mind grabbing those? I'll come back for the champagne and glasses after we cut the cake."

After placing the cake on the coffee table, Meisa thanked Ohno for grabbing her camera and positioned it on her TV stand so that it could take pictures with all of them in it. "Move a little closer together, I'll squeeze in somewhere between Maki and Satoshi, if that's okay?"

She pressed the button and hurried to the other side of the coffee table, hoping to make it before the timer went off.

And squeeze Ohno did, grinning like a fool at the camera and deciding the best course of action was to pull Meisa down to sit on his and Maki's laps. Obviously the best, of course. He reached out next for Nino, pulling the fay in against him on his other side, an arm wrapped tightly around his waist.

"Say cheese!"
