CHAPTER 3
Bam slid Jenn into the backseat and ordered his mother to stay with her while he drove. "We'll get there hella faster with me at the wheel, Ape. Make sure Jenn stops bleedin' so much."
He pulled out quickly, almost leaving skidmarks as he sped off. Looking into the rearview mirror, Bam's mouth dropped open a bit when he saw Tony speed out of the house at an inhuman rate and run after the car. Bam just pressed down on the gas pedal a little more and sighed in partial relief when Tony turned sharply and ran after a woman standing on the side ofthe road. Houses were smoking and cars had crashed. "April, how could you miss all of this?!"
"Uh, I didn' come this way, Bam!" April said in an 'Are you an idioit?' tone. Her voice softened. "Jenn's not bleedin' as much."
'Good,' thought Bam, dodging an overturned car in the middle of the street. 'All we have to do now is get her to the hospital and hope that there's still order enough there to have them stitch her up...' Bam jerked out of his thoughts as a bulky thing came into his path. He hit the thing and it rolled over his windshield and behind the car.
"Bam?! What the hell's the matter with you?!" April screamed from the back. "We gotta see if that person is okay!"
Bam nodded and backed up. Rolling down the window, he winced at the person, who's leg was twisted at an odd angle. "Shit. Mister, are you all right?"
The man's head cracked as he lifted it and turned it, the cloudy blue eyes staring unseeingly at him. The man had just begun to push himself up when a gunshot rang out and not a second later, the man's head was blown to bits. Bam's head whipped up to see Chris Raab clutching a bat and standing next to Brandon Novak, his friend from Baltimore. Novak held a smoking cigarette in his mouth and a smoking gun in his right hand. "What's up, Bammie?"
"Holy shit, Novak!" Bam yelled. "What the fuck was that about?! You just killed a man!"
"I killed a fuckin' zombie, dude," Novak replied as he took a drag off his cigarette, and Raab nodded encouragingly. "It's all over the news and the radio. These things?" He let out a smoky breath. "They're dead. They're evil. They need to be shot. Turn the radio on."
Bam nodded absently and gestured for the two to get into the car. April scooted over as Raab entered the backseat driver's side and Jenn leaned against the window on the opposite side of the car. Novak plopped down in the passenger seat, meanwhile, and Bam sped away from the dead man.
Police are instructing everyone to stay inside their homes. Lock your doors and windows. Don't try to make contact with any loved ones. The people trying to attack you, well... The news says you can stop them by removing the head or destroying the brain. Again you must remove their head or destroy their brain.
"Bam, turn on something a little more friendly!" April called from the back. He turned the radio off completely. "And speed up! Jenn's getting paler!"
Bam glanced back and indeed, Jenn was looking ashen-faced. Bloodloss would do that to you. Bam pressed harder on the pedal, and he saw the hospital just around the corner. He took a right sharply and fishtailed, sending April into a screaming frenzy while Raab and Novak cheered from their seats.
Pulling in front of the hospital, Bam finally stopped to take a breather. "Bam..." a distance voice whispered roughly. "Bam something bad is going to happen."
"Something bad is already happening, Jenn," Bam said.
"I'm going to die, and you'll have to kill me. Seriously, don't mourn me. I know you'll find someone, 'cause I've seen it. I know I'm not making any sense. It'll make sense. Keep going south. You'll find peace there..." She coughed and some blood came up. April looked to Bam, her face showing her concern plainly. "Just wait it out. Wait it out and stay close to everyone." Jenn coughed again and stilled, her eyes staring up blankly.
"Holy shit!" Raab cried. "Fuck, she's dead!"
"Oh my god, Bam! What do we do? What do we do!?!" April cried out. Bam turned around.
"We'll have to get her into the hospital," Bam replied quietly. He got out of the car in his own zombie-like state. In a robotic-like way, he opened Jenn's door and pulled her out, checking her pulse. He shook his head and sighed. "Novak, hold her. I'll go get that gurney over there." Running over when Novak took Jenn, Bam grabbed the gurney and pushed it over to the car.
"Bam, take this," Raab called, handing him the bat. He pulled a gun out of the back of his pants. "Don't worry, I'll make sure your car and Ape are protected."
Bam shook his head graciously. He helped lift Jenn onto the gurney before pushing her into the hospital, Novak trailing behind him still holding the gun.
The hospital was empty and the floors were blood-smeared. It scared Bam a little. He stopped the gurney near the front and bent over to look behind the front desk. No one. He stretched to peak into the office behind the desk...
On the floor was a dismembered foot surrounded by a puddle of blood.
Ew.
Bam easily held in his lunch. He'd seen worse in the emergency rooms. Picking up a sheet from a nearby gurney, he draped it over Jenn's body, pausing briefly to kiss her forehead. He turned to Novak, who was finishing up his cigarette. "Wait here. I'm gonna go find a first aid kit in case something like this happens again."
Walking barefoot wasn't the smartest thing to do, but Bam ran faster without shoes. Clutching the bat, Bam continued cautiously to the end of the hall, seeing the first aid cabinet there. Glancing around quickly, Bam let out a silent breath at the empty halls. Opening the cabinet, he grabbed a mini-kit, several needles, and a few wells(1) of medicine. He turned around and spotted a hospital gown, a new one at that, and made a makeshift bag and shoved all of the medical items into the gown. Slinging the bag over his back, Bam gripped the bat tighter at the small bang from much further down the hall. He started walking back to the front, wanting to get back into his car and drive to somewhere safe...
Bam exhaled shakily when he reached the front area. Novak was leaning against the front desk, looking out the automatic doors distantly. "Well, I got my stuff. Let's go, then."
In the corner of his eye, Bam saw something shift, and he jerked his head to look. Jenn had sat up and the sheet had fallen down to expose her upper body. Her skin was pale, the veins blue and purple in color stood out sharply against her skin. Bam stumbled back when her head turned slowly to look at him. Her eyes were cloudy and blue, just like the other man's had been. Jenn, or what was now Jenn, clambered off the gurney and attacked him. Bam shoved the bag into Novak's arms and brought the bat up to defend himself from Jenn's hands. Forcing her back, Bam pulled the bat back to swing and paused. "I'm sorry, Jenn."
Bam let all of his force go into the swing, and Jenn's head snapped the opposite direction with a sickening crack and a splatter of blood against the wall.
'Oh god,' Bam thought, his face showing his obvious shock. 'I just killed someone. I just killed Jenn.'
-->END CHAPTER 3.
A/N: Well, there goes Zombie!Jenn. I wanted Bam to have to kill her. I also like prophetic Jenn. Tehe!! Hope y'all liked this one! Review please!
(1)- by wells... Think of ink wells. You know how they look and how some medicine bottles look like ink wells? I just used that to describe them. I didn't know how else to.
