[This time, the background of the video is the Ecruteak City gym, with Kaito flicking a newly won Fog Badge up into the air and catching it all in one smooth motion, Aipom on his shoulder and Arbok slithering happily behind him. Behind him stands an exhausted looking Morty who is currently patting his defeated Gengar on the head ( Read more... )

Brought back to life ... some of us outsiders were dead before coming here. Perhaps that bird revives more than other pokémon.

[Thinking out loud for a bit there.]

I don't know much about these legends. Care to enlighten me?

[a thoughtful expression washes over his features] Ho-oh... you think that bird is somehow connected to us being brought here?

[he nods]

Legend in Ecruteak says that 150 years ago, three Pokemon died in a fire that burned down one of two towers in the city. Ho-oh, the legendary Pokemon who used to live at the top of the Bell Tower, brought them back to life before they disappeared.

Pretty interesting, huh?

I'm not sure. I don't feel like anything from this world is responsible for us being in it, but there's no saying that the possible outside source that is pulling the strings couldn't seek help from what is already here.

[And silence as he listens to this, interested.]

Yes. That is very interesting.

If we're still looking for a way home, then it's something we should investigate.

I wonder what other legends are out there?

..... Ho-oh?

[Fuu's kind of staring at you in... well, now she's interested.]

That word... it's a play on phoenix, isn't it? I... is there more? To the story?

Heh. It kinda sounds like your last name, doesn't it?

[a shake of his head] That's all Morty told me. Three Pokemon died in the fire, and Ho-oh brought them back to life.

It doesn't quite follow popular phoenix legend, but they are a symbol of rebirth...

This is fascinating. [WHAT IF THIS PHOENIX POKEMON IS INTELLIGENT. WHAT COULD SHE LEARN FROM IT.] I have... ah, I know a phoenix, is all. [she puts a hand to her heart] He was my protector... We fought side by side.

This is Johto, remember? They have their own legends.

[a grin] Sounds kinda like the Pokemon, only it's magic instead.

[leave it to Crow to be enthusiastic instead!]

Congrats! Told ya it wouldn't be hard--

[...and then he notices you're occupied with something else.]

... Huh. Can't say I've seen anything like that...

[this is the part where he makes a connection.]

Wait a minute... A legendary Pokemon? And it's in that tower? That's gotta be it!

-- what's gotta be it? The reason the monks won't let us inside?

Last time Rua was here, he said he saw something that-- shouldn't be here flying to that tower.

I think it might have been that Pokemon and he just took it for something else. [because it's more logical than ancient Peruvian dragon gods flying above Ecruteak.]

[immediately interested]

You think those monks have been keeping Ho-oh's visits to Ecruteak a secret?

Raikou, Suicune, Entei... With Ho-oh being the one who came down from the tower...

The locals mentioned a link between the elements involved in the tower's destruction and the Pokémon that died. Did Morty say what their types were?

[he lifts a hand and uses his fingers to count them off]

Entei is fire, Suicune is water, and Raikou is electric.

...The lightning that struck the tower, the fire that destroyed it, and the rain that extinguished it. That makes sense.

And the phoenix that resurrected all three of them.

You don't believe it?

I wouldn't say believe, it's not really my interest. Even though pokémon hasn't returned to the tower, I can't help but wonder why would those monks keep it off limits.

To hide something connected to the legend, 'course.

The question that has no answer is what that thing is.
