This world has only one sweet moment set aside for us'>
He'd played this scene out before, only instead of looking up the history of the universe he was suddenly trapped in, his research subject this time was immortality. While Futurists had their hypothesis about how immortality might be achieved by mortal men, all Alex wanted was a way to undo it. But his immortality was something no one could foresee, something that was so messed up even he couldn't make sense of it.
And Uatu had fucking known when he put the Nexus into his mind.
It wasn't fair. It was one more thing that Alex Summers had never asked for that he was stuck with now, one more responsibility he would never shrug off, and as he looked at the books laid out in front of him, he found no comfort in their words. Was this how Jay felt, knowing she could be injured but never die?
It was a burden almost too heavy to carry.
