Waiting for Hawaii 5-0 season 2

Aug 30, 2011 14:38

Well, last night was the episode where Danny was exposed to sarin (lol, I nearly typed "sauron") and Steve was all worried about him. Lord, that scene was just wonderful, the way Steve seemed to run at top speed to Danny's side, despite the fact that Danny was not that far away from him, the say he helped Danny out of his vest and looked at him in ( Read more... )

I remember thinking at the time, when -- after Steve flat-out LIED to the FBI for Danny -- Danny sought comfort with Rachel instead of touching base with Steve that we were seeing a rekindled romance being foreshadowed, even though the subject didn't come up again at all until 1.23, when Danny and Rachel seemed *mighty* cozy for two people who were presumably only *considering* getting back together ( ... )

As always, Bert, your opinions dovetail with mine and since you're doing more research and such on the show, they add to my thinking quite a bit. In fact, I intended to mention that your saying how few pics of Alex and Steve have been shown for the new season got me thinking about this when I was writing this post (and then I forgot to put that in, sorry ( ... )

This is OT, but I just have to butt in and say that John Lennon and Paul McCartney's relationship was already screwed up long before Yoko - and how conveniently we forget Linda Eastman - came along.

Ummm... yes, that is OT. Sorry if you felt I was bashing Yoko, but I wasn't discussing the fine points of John and Paul's relationship, just throwing out a quick example of a situation. A woman can be wonderful and still affect the relationship of two men.

I'm here for the bromance, its lovely subtext and all that goes with it. Greatly reduce or remove that and they will be short one viewer.

I am mostly concerned with Steve's new love interest as it is my understanding she will also be the new team member? If I got that right then in order for the idea to work, they pretty much need to morph the Steve and Danny hanging out time to the Steve and Lori hanging out time to build a credible romance angle. It might not start right away but its going to be unavoidable if they keep with that plan (or one very poorly handled romance storyline).

As for the promo with Terry, I had to actually go back and check the spoilers. I would swear he was coming on as a regular based on the ad, but the spoilers say recurring.

Make that two.

Well, they did sort of "poorly handle" the Rachel/Danny romance storyline, so maybe there's hope.

Thanks for commenting, I agree with everything you've said.

I have not seen every H50 ep from first season, but I've seen the key ones (and I've so far written two slash fics.) There is no way TPTB will do any version of H50 without the key main characters of Steve and Danno from the old show and the new, keeping them partners, working together. That's the show. So I really have very few worries ( ... )

Yes, your comment does make me feel better. I'm sure they are not going to forget that Steve and Danny are the show or that their two stars need their screen time. I do sort of worry that they are throwing so many other characters and "love interests" into the mix that they will begin to stray farther from the original idea of the elite team fighting crime.

I can work around love interests, but I really have issues with a character who is married being with someone else. It hindered my slashing Vinnie and Frank before Jenny left Frank and it affects how I feel about Danny being with Rachel while she's still married to Stan and it would affect my writing Danny/Steve if Rachel were in the picture and they were back together or if he had some commitment to another character.

Which reminds me,I still need to go find out about postage so I can mail you that zine, don't I? Sorry, my mind wanders sometimes.

Thanks for commenting though, I appreciate the insight.

I have to agree with you that the show is poorly written. You could drive a truck through the holes in the plot. The only think that makes it special is the Steve/Danny friendship. In fact I don't even watch episodes where S/D are not together or that focus too much on any of the other actors (with all respect to Grace and Daniel who are terrific supporting actors). That's why I worry about all of the new characters being added. The show became a hit with the four main characters, why are they adding a bunch of new people ( ... )

I'm going to throw out a conspiracy theory here for a moment. After the pics of the Camaro pinkie touching and the day-off health food shopping (presumably with only one grocery basket) perhaps it's been suggested to the boys that they cut down a bit on the googy eyes lest they give any hint that the chemistry might be between the actors instead of the characters. I'm not typically a RPS shipper but c'mon, gorgeous men of that age (in an industry where it's de rigeur to be on your third marriage by 35) neither one ever married, whose paparazzi shots are typically sent in from the gay village that is West Hollywood, where AOL happens to have a house? These boys are a shared t-shirt away from exploding all over Perez Hilton.

There is that.

I'm not an RPS shipper at all, but there can be reasons why fewer pics of Alex and Scott and Steve and Danno have shown up and I'd rather it be that than other theories.

BTW, what "Camero pinky touching" pic? Link, please?

I am concerned about what I call the "Castlization" of the show. People have been talking about this for awhile now: that CBS told the show to cool down the bromance and add "love interests", ostensibly to compete with Castle. Whether this is true, I don't know, but it's one of the theories.

Me too. That is what truly has me concerned. I want to wait and see but given that they've obviously made big attempts to steer away from the bromantic angle in the past doesn't make me as worry free as I'd like to be.

When UPN told TPTB on The Sentinel to cool down that aspect of the show (though the word 'bromance' hadn't been coined yet) what we got was a strained relationship between the two characters and stuff that headed into partner betrayal territory, when bringing in a love interest character didn't work.

I know it's all about the bottom line with tv shows but I still just don't get why they'd want to make Hawaii 5-0 more like Castle. They could change its time slot and put it opposite less popular competition, they could do other things if Castle seems to be beating it in the ratings. I have to wonder, who looks at a show with two male leads and says, let's make it more like that show with a male and female lead? I know... people who aren't creative producers and writers, that's who.

Yeah: the guys in suits. Someone, I think on LiveJournal, said that turning 5-0 into Castle will not gain Castle viewers, it will lose 5-0 viewers (or something like that, it was a while ago). I think that makes sense. Once the season starts, we will see what they're doing, and I hope that at that point it won't be too late to save the show. : - \

I saw that post on LJ too and I agree. I've watched Castle and Nathan Fillion is lovely but the male/female tv partner dynamic isn't my thing. What I get from Hawaii 5-0 is. And yes, I want more of it.
