Waiting for Hawaii 5-0 season 2

Well, last night was the episode where Danny was exposed to sarin (lol, I nearly typed "sauron") and Steve was all worried about him. Lord, that scene was just wonderful, the way Steve seemed to run at top speed to Danny's side, despite the fact that Danny was not that far away from him, the say he helped Danny out of his vest and looked at him in ( Read more... )

I have not seen every H50 ep from first season, but I've seen the key ones (and I've so far written two slash fics.) There is no way TPTB will do any version of H50 without the key main characters of Steve and Danno from the old show and the new, keeping them partners, working together. That's the show. So I really have very few worries.

On that rationality, there is no way I can see that Rachel will stay in the picture. Maybe even Grace will go away. And Danny will never move away from Hawaii...then there's no show. So...this gives Danny's character even more sorrow/angst and more for Steve to deal with/comfort. I don't think I'm wrong here, but wait and we'll see.

Also, the two main actors (Alex and Scott) ARE the stars. They will fight to keep their standing even if they have to count lines (and if they don't, they should.)

If changes are being made it may be flailing around to find more substance. Maybe TPTB are going about it wrong, but the show is extremely poorly written with the exception of the banter and dialog of Steve and Danno. I mean the plots are horrible. If they are trying to do more ongoing, deeper arcs, bringing in more characters for situational content to deepen and even introduce tough dilemmas into the stories, I will applaud this. But of course one must wait and see. (It could've been done with White Collar and wasn't. Thus, White Collar remains a great idea with great characters but no substance, no depth, utter fluff.) So, H50 could be a disaster. Or it could remain just as shallow as first season, the car chase of the week.

I agree the ensemble casts (in a lot of shows these days) get to be an overload. There are too many characters to follow in depth so they all get short shrift. It's frustrating unless the scripts are very very well written.

Oh, and you are quite observant. I didn't realize until now: everything is Matt's fault!

I don't know if the bromance will be downplayed in second season. The actors' chemistry together cannot be avoided. It's real. So it's just going to be there. I expect love interests to come and go on this show, so I can work around them in my fanfic mind, but Steve and Danny are steadfast.

Hope this comment makes you feel better.

Yes, your comment does make me feel better. I'm sure they are not going to forget that Steve and Danny are the show or that their two stars need their screen time. I do sort of worry that they are throwing so many other characters and "love interests" into the mix that they will begin to stray farther from the original idea of the elite team fighting crime.

I can work around love interests, but I really have issues with a character who is married being with someone else. It hindered my slashing Vinnie and Frank before Jenny left Frank and it affects how I feel about Danny being with Rachel while she's still married to Stan and it would affect my writing Danny/Steve if Rachel were in the picture and they were back together or if he had some commitment to another character.

Which reminds me,I still need to go find out about postage so I can mail you that zine, don't I? Sorry, my mind wanders sometimes.

Thanks for commenting though, I appreciate the insight.

I have to agree with you that the show is poorly written. You could drive a truck through the holes in the plot. The only think that makes it special is the Steve/Danny friendship. In fact I don't even watch episodes where S/D are not together or that focus too much on any of the other actors (with all respect to Grace and Daniel who are terrific supporting actors). That's why I worry about all of the new characters being added. The show became a hit with the four main characters, why are they adding a bunch of new people?
I'll once again reiterate my concern that I voiced a few days ago that I'm ticked at the idea of Terry O'Quinn's character being the one to save Steve. I'm sure Mr. O'Quinn is a fine actor and will bring something good to the show (a father figure for Steve?) but I want Danny to rescue Steve, not some heretofore unknown character.
I also don't like the idea Steve starting a sexual relationship with someone who is going to work for him (I wouldn't care if it was Danny - will never happen on network TV - because Danny is his equal and 2nd in command). As a reserve Naval officer he wouldn't do this - it's inappropriate. Not to mention I'm sick of this sexist idea that men and women can't work together without hopping in the sack.
Anyway I just saw a new version of the season 2 spoiler video and at least Danny speaks in it so I can only hope they don't forget we want to see Danny/Steve - not 35 other people.
