the optician gave up trying to put them in and wrote “strong blink reflex” on a form and sent me to be taught how to put them in myself

i spent 40 minutes poking myself in the eye and finally got one in then spent ten minutes trying to get it out while the person teaching me hopelessly repeated “you’re doing ( Read more... )

That doesn't surprise me. If it was me doing "Deliberately poke yourself in the eye" practice, I'd be slow, too.

That and all my time seems to have been filled up with other shit like "go and tell off the therapist".

I can't remember how many it was exactly, but it was either 3 or 4 appointments before I learned to put contacts in, so trust me, you've a way to go before you fail as badly as me :p

I shall try to draw strength from this. ;) And from the possibility of not constantly having rain-spattered glasses/being able to wear sunglasses again.

That was exactly my experience with contacts the first time. The second time, about six months later, I did a bit better, but I still needed at least ten minutes per eye and couldn't be arsed in the end. Hay fever was a big factor in why it didn't work the first time; tree pollen sets me off at this time of year.

I'm sure it's just a question of practice but they won't let me have the damn things to practice with until I've shown I can put them in and take them out once. AND I also have hayfever.
