Humpday Dumpty

1. It was Farmer's Market Day in downtown State Capitalville. I got a lovely large bag of lettuce, 2 vine-ripened tomatoes (no pesticides), a ginormous chocolate chip cookie for DD, and a triple-chocolate brownie and a bag of freshly-popped popcorn for myself. I have, alas, already eaten the popcorn, because I simply couldn't wait until 2:30 -3:00 ( Read more... )

Shingles are a pain, and on the face, well, he does have the valtrex, so that might help/prevent this, but: if he starts to have nerve pain? make him go get a BIG painkiller prescription. Post-herpetic facial neuralgia (irritation of the nerve) was the most painful thing I have ever experienced, by FAR--if it's a 10, childbirth is a 5-6, no lie (tonsils out as an adult, which SUCKED, was relatively about an 7). I couldn't do much of anything but let my eyes drip tears for days (actually sobbing hurt more, so I just dripped), and needed percocet to dull it to tolerable enough to manage complex tasks like doing the dishes, and very much thought if this was going to be long term, I didn't need to be living any more.

Wow, thanks for the heads up. That's fairly terrifying. The fact that his left eye is involved has me pretty worried. How can he tell whether he's having nerve pain? He said Monday that he had a headache, and he says "it hurts" but not in a specific way. For obvious reasons he doesn't want to poke at his forehead, and neither do I.

Mine was the nerve that controls the entire side of the face (trigeminal nerve). It's hard to describe how it hurt, other than A LOT, but it didn't feel like muscle or skin pain.

The nerves that seem to be affected are in the diagram called 'same, with nerves' (except on the left side of his head). So the trigeminal nerve - is that the top one running along the cheekbone on this model?

I asked Hoot, since she was more like M. than I was at that age. So here are some things she mentioned ( ... )

Thanks for the party suggestions; I will relay them to DD.

And sorry about your case of shingles. You're way too young to have to suffer through that!

Hope the party goes well!

Thanks for the sympathy. The summerof 2006 was not one I will ever remember fondly, for the shingles thing and other, even worse reasons. The others were matters of the heart though.

2. Thanks. The disease is running its course and he has more nasty eruptions on his face, including around his left eye. That's the main thing I worry about, that he could end up with some vision problems because of this.

3. We usually don't because it's too much effort to clean up the house ahead of time (sigh). And also, there isn't much to do here for kids that age except watch movies.

*hugs*

1. Yay for happy produce (and brownies!)

2. I really hope the meds help. Poor Mr. A!

3. There's a lot of fun things you can do that are pretty simple and not too expensive. For Abby's b-day last year, we made homemade pizza, did pedicures, and the girls played DDR for about two hours. Since she's into jewelry, you might want to look into something like making Sculpey beads, Shrinky Dinks, etc. (I recently made a VERY cool SD charm of the Analog Heart cover art!)

4. I know - summer's just flown by, hasn't it?

5. Yes, and no. I haven't been real impressed this year, either.

6. No, it's not November yet. It can be November as soon as I get home from Tulsa. *LOL* And I'd love to have DC's full audition of I'll Be, too. (Although I still wish he'd have done I Could Not Ask For More if he was going to go with Edwin McCain.)

2. I just hope he does not develop trigeminal neuralgia.

5. Terry Fator was a real find last year (though not exactly AGT's version of DC, eh? But then, who could be? :))

6. Yes, you must go to Tulsa first. *is insanely jellus*

I was at a bead store last weekend and overheard them talking to a customer about doing birthday parties. Beading! I think you can do it either at the shop or at home, you get a teacher and bead jewelry kits and the girls make a project.

That is an interesting suggestion, Lori. I'll ask DD if she wants to do something like that. I think there will be at least one boy at this party but hey, he's a pretty flexible guy :D
