Stolen from greenconverses:

Pick a character and I will give and explain some ideas/concepts/etc I keep in mind while writing that character that I believe are essential to accurately depicting them. Any and all characters welcome ( including ones I haven't written but might know about...)

Cassie, because you're so good at writing her. :)

1. First rule of Cassie is "Screw the haters". There's a lot of people who don't like that Cassie grew up to be pretty (you mean she didn't hid behind a wig and goggles for the rest of her adolescent life?--that ho!), lead the Titans (and--shocker! actually made mistakes!), became depressed because her boyfriend died (If Tim does it, it's okay--yaoi lover-boys and all that--but if the girlfriend does it, that's just pathetic...), and then tried to move on with her life (unfaithful seducer of your boyfriend's boyfriend, DIAF!). She has a bad rap, and if you don't clear that poison from your brain before sitting down to write her, there's no point in sitting down to write at all ( ... )

Great list. :D

I hate hate hate ultra-Tim/Kon shippers who bash Cassie. I have nothing against the pairing, but some of them have done a good job of turning me off to them. My policy is pretty much that I'll ship anyone from YJ with anyone without judgement, and a few others from the outside too, like Kara for Cassie, or Jaime with just about anyone. I don't judge much.

I love #2. My only real problem with the way she's portrayed now is the fact that she seems to have given up on any sort of civilian life, which seems really off to me. But other than that, I still love her.

The giving up on civilian life seemed strange to me at first, but then I realized she really didn't have too much invested in it. Her mom knew how much she loved superheroing. Her best friends were all in the caped business. School and secrecy were quite a burden on her, even at St. Elias, where she had friends to confide in. So in the end, it felt like she was just letting go of a safety-net sort of option rather than giving up something that really meant a lot to her.

1. The first rule of Kara is "Screw the haters". (Coincidentally, this is also the first rule of Cassie, but I digress...) They just jealous. If I had a super-torso? I'd flaunt it. If I crash-landed on an alien planet? I wouldn't understand the locals much, either. Also, I'd get tired of trying. Often, even if you love a character, you need to remember to forget what the mean people say, 'cause the barbs are designed to stick.

2. Kara is smart. Kara is intelligent. Kara is... not necessarily wise. She's a bit of a scientist, and can do her Kryptonian heritage proud as far as building an all-purpose ray-gun is concerned, but she's as lost an indecisive as any teen as far as life-plans go. She tries to work by a process of elimination, finding out what she doesn't want, but that still leaves her with too many options ( ... )

1. Tim is so aware, it's painful. They say that ignorance is bliss, and Tim's life is the furthest thing from ignorance. He's not merely aware are the dark things that happen on Gotham's streets, but he's aware of the interpersonal relationships around him, and a million technical details and the relevance they have. Because of the enormity of this awareness, Tim must sometimes pick and choose what he will actually acknowledge to make sure he doesn't go crazy. Tim will acknowledge every detail of a murder he's investigating, but he will never admit how much his father and mother neglected him as a child, because that's just too much to handle, especially in light of their deaths.

2. Tim is the most like Bruce, but he is most definitely not Bruce. True, he is calculating and urbane, a master detective with a knack for mind-games. It's also true that he will sometimes lose himself in work, and cut himself off from everyone when he's not thinking things through on the relationship end, but Tim knows how to love people. Sometimes he ( ... )

Just wanted to say that I liked your list for Tim! It's all stuff that I think too, but it's always in the background --never fully fleshed-out like this.

Do you have anything for Kon-El?

Thanks! Part of the fun is looking back over my drabbles and one-shots, picking out the characteristics that really seem to be driving the stories of these characters I love so much. I generally like to think that I keep my characters pretty cannon, but I have to realize that it's really my perception of cannon that's coming out, and then I have to sit down and think about what it is that I think... it's fun. ;p

And now... Kon!

1. Kon looks on the bright side. Sometimes he does it because he genuinely sees the good in a situation whether it be free food, babes, another life saved, or simple catharsis. And sometimes he does it because he's the only one left who can.

2. His test tube mommy wasn't the best parent... but she wasn't the worst either. Kon didn't have a childhood. This fact makes him sad, but he's not really bitter because the flip-side is that he didn't have a bad childhood. He wasn't neglected or abused; he just suddenly was, and he does appreciate the fact that he came pre-packed with a knowledge of Star Wars, ( ... )
