Stolen from greenconverses:

Pick a character and I will give and explain some ideas/concepts/etc I keep in mind while writing that character that I believe are essential to accurately depicting them. Any and all characters welcome ( including ones I haven't written but might know about...)

Thanks! Part of the fun is looking back over my drabbles and one-shots, picking out the characteristics that really seem to be driving the stories of these characters I love so much. I generally like to think that I keep my characters pretty cannon, but I have to realize that it's really my perception of cannon that's coming out, and then I have to sit down and think about what it is that I think... it's fun. ;p

And now... Kon!

1. Kon looks on the bright side. Sometimes he does it because he genuinely sees the good in a situation whether it be free food, babes, another life saved, or simple catharsis. And sometimes he does it because he's the only one left who can.

2. His test tube mommy wasn't the best parent... but she wasn't the worst either. Kon didn't have a childhood. This fact makes him sad, but he's not really bitter because the flip-side is that he didn't have a bad childhood. He wasn't neglected or abused; he just suddenly was, and he does appreciate the fact that he came pre-packed with a knowledge of Star Wars, Playboy, McDonalds, Surfing, and Wendy the Werewolf stalker. Especially Wendy the Werewolf Stalker.

3. Kon believes that genetics make a difference. In theory, he likes to tell people it doesn't matter, especially if he's talking to an innocent civilian who happens to be unfortunately related to the whacked-out psycho her just saved her from, but Kon spent so much of his youth placing self-worth on being the clone of superman, and now older, he lays much of his guilt and fears on the fact that he's also the clone of Lex Luthor. It doesn't help that Lex pays more attention to him than Clark does. In same ways, it makes him feel more emotionally connected to Lex, and that scares him.

4. Kon isn't an intellectual, but he's quite smart. Kon does get a lot of what the brainy types tell him (especially when they're talking biology), he just doesn't choose to devote a ton of time to having his nose stuck in a book. He'd rather be out doing things. Part of what bored him about Smallville at first was that there didn't seem to be anything fun to do. No surfing, no nightlife, etc. Later, he realized that there were helpful things to do. Repairing fences, caring for animals, talking to country people and listening to their problems... He's learned that superpowers don't need to speed up everything, and there's a lot to learn by living your life both slow and fast. He does feel, however, that he doesn't always have the best sense of strategy, but that's what team work and leaders are for.

5. Kon considers himself a part of Clark's family, but he doesn't really presume what he is to Clark, specifically. He embraces Kara as a cousin. He loves Ma and Pa as the closest things to parents he's ever known. He takes care of Krypto. He gives Lois to occasional news tidbit. But Clark... Kon doesn't really know how to deal with Clark. He knows how to talk shop with the guy and even have meaningful heart-to-hearts about other things that are bothering him, but he just can't talk about his relationship with Clark to Clark. To Kon, it's as simple as this: Superman is his rolemodel, and the man behind the cape is one of the most helpful and considerate guys on the whole planet... but he never asked for a son, and Kon was always too big to be anyone's little boy anyway. Kon has just accepted that he's never gonna quite know where he stands, and he's gotten used to it. Far more so than Clark.

6. The fact that he went for about two years of his life stuck at sixteen, not aging, and not believing he was going to age, still messes him up in little ways every once in a while. He still has to double-take every time he looks in the mirror and sees a hint of stubble. He's pretty sure his perception of age in general is different from everyone else's. He occasionally worries--just a little--that he need to catch up to Tim and Bart and Cassie in some way. Especially Bart, who seemed to grow up over night. Still, he's really grateful to be aging. When he was stuck at sixteen, he embraced the whole Peter Pan thing because he had no choice, but the truth is, he's really glad now that he will change and die like everybody else... that he won't be left behind.
