I'd like to say it was the Canadian public school system but it was totally Lady Marmalade. *g*

I tried to cram some Italian for my trip there. It sure brought back my high school Spanish.

"Entschuldigung" (pronounced pretty much as it looks, ent-SHOOL-dee-goong) is "I'm sorry ( ... )

I'm going to REALLY work on my German for my next trip and I think this proves a phrase book that spells it out phonetically would be the best bet.

I think RingCon was two weeks after FilkContinental -- which is a little long for me to be away from home and stay married. *g*

Ah, so I should pretend I don't know any German the next time I arrive at a German airport! :) Seriously, though, they didn't give me any more trouble than they gave you.

But cross from Canada to the US and you get the third degree. Weird...

Oh, the arches! My BFA is sitting up and begging.

You're staying in the wrong motels in North America -- everyplace seems to have a free continental breakfast, and often a basic hot breakfast, these days. Except the 4/5 star ones in SF -- if you can afford them, you can afford to pay for breakfast, must be their attitude....

I really need a list! Because so far this year it's hotels in NY, Toronto, Baltimore, San Diego, and Edmonton -- no included breakfast. Vertmont did but we were in a Holiday Inn Express and that's part of their schtick (and higher room rate) The German breakfast was a full and extensive all you can eat buffet. Very varied and tasty!

I usually use the Garden Inns -- reasonable variety, but not extensive, unless they have competition in the area competing with a great breakfast. Have you checked into B&Bs in the areas? Often they offer a very nice breakfast -- can even cater to food allergies, if they know in advance.

I'm not fond of B&Bs; staying in someone's house when I don't know them just weirds me out.

Nice to hear you enjoyed our autumn weather and historic buildings. ^_^

Off topic, but I just wanted to say that I loved "Quid pro quo", it was the reason I bought the anthology (I liked many of the other stories in it too, but I simply adore Vicki and Mike and the sense of humour in your work).
