Uh, you realize that if you have a phone that is unlocked, all you'd need do is get a SIM card for the country you'd be in, and you'd be able to communicate for a rate cheaper than all the international plans in the world. For instance, if/when I go back to Hong Kong, rather than pay something like $2.00/minute to call home, with a Hong Kong SIM card in my unlocked phone, I can call home for about $0.15-20/minute.

When (I HOPE) I go to Ireland sometime in 2011 for a recording session for Star Trek: Grissom, I already have an Irish SIM card which I bought for $2.02 (including shipping) and for which I can load up with about 10 Euros worth of time, which should be more than enough for communicating in Ireland as well as calling back to the US if need be.

My phone is so basic none of this applies. Which is why the person at Rogers was laughing.

What, your phone doesn't use a SIM card, or is it locked into your cellphone company provider?

Doesn't use a sim card and is a pay as you go phone. I have no signal within 22K of the house so a plan spends money to no effect.
