No more pigtails

My daughter gave herself a haircut today. I wanted to cry. The one good thing is that it's now too short for her to twist locks up under (and into--ugh!) her nose while sucking her thumb. The photos are under the cut. Or you can just go to the gallery which also has dance photos and Ben with his haircut.

She is indeed. I'm pleased with the job I did...and with having given her a mirror so she could watch (and cry) for the ENTIRE haircut. I thought that was a nice touch.

I have to admit that when you told me earlier today that Elf cut her hair, there was ... um ... giggling at this end. Hair grows back, not the end of the world. My sister gave herself half-inch bangs once. So, really, you got off pretty easy. (I agree she looks better with the longer hair though, but no big deal.)

I do wish I could get inside her brain and figure out exactly what she was thinking at the time.

She says she doesn't know really WHAT she was thinking, but that she wanted to cut a little. When I asked her what she should have done, she immediately answered that she should have asked me first. I still maintain that she was bored and thought, "Hey...let's see what this is like!"

Hee! That actually explains most of my life decisions too.

Hair grows back, and I think it's a rite of childhood to give yourself a thoroughly humiliating haircut. I'm sure there are still a few pictures of me with an 1.5" square cut out of the middle of my bangs in elementary school because Brian Finger dared me to do it. There was pretty much no haircut in the world, save a crew cut, that could've made that look better, and I ended up with quarter inch bangs as a result (which I felt was much worse than what I had done, thanks Mom).

I'm just glad that it's actually not humiliating and was salvageable. I'm just also really sad because it had taken FIVE YEARS to get long enough to play with...and that she'd done and gotten in trouble for this before and knew better. I mean...we'd only just achieved pigtails and costume-length hair....and, well...it'll grow, and I have some slight hope that it'll grow more quickly this time.

So...did I do better than your mom in rescuing her from her chop-job?

costume-length hair

With this cut, you could put her in an SG-1 outfit and call her Sam, y'know...

Oh, I know; that was part of my thought process to console myself.

She looks TOTALLY lovely with the short hair! It's absolutely perfect for her face. :) She's completely precious!

Doesn't everyone try to cut their own hair at this age? I gave myself bangs and tried to glue my eyelids shut on the same day when I was 6.

Awww...thanks. I'm just sad because it had only just gotten long enough to put up and play with and do costumes with. Here's hoping that it'll grow faster this time since what it was before was FIVE YEARS of growth with only two trims.
