No more pigtails

My daughter gave herself a haircut today. I wanted to cry. The one good thing is that it's now too short for her to twist locks up under (and into--ugh!) her nose while sucking her thumb. The photos are under the cut. Or you can just go to the gallery which also has dance photos and Ben with his haircut.

Hair grows back, and I think it's a rite of childhood to give yourself a thoroughly humiliating haircut. I'm sure there are still a few pictures of me with an 1.5" square cut out of the middle of my bangs in elementary school because Brian Finger dared me to do it. There was pretty much no haircut in the world, save a crew cut, that could've made that look better, and I ended up with quarter inch bangs as a result (which I felt was much worse than what I had done, thanks Mom).

I'm just glad that it's actually not humiliating and was salvageable. I'm just also really sad because it had taken FIVE YEARS to get long enough to play with...and that she'd done and gotten in trouble for this before and knew better. I mean...we'd only just achieved pigtails and costume-length hair....and, well...it'll grow, and I have some slight hope that it'll grow more quickly this time.

So...did I do better than your mom in rescuing her from her chop-job?

Oh, I know; that was part of my thought process to console myself.

Much better! :) I happen to like the shorter hair better than the longer.

Now, a few days later, I think she looks utterly DARLING with the short hair. I still lament the impossibility of pigtails like in this icon, but she is SO CUTE with the little Hayley Mills/Sam Carter look. :-)

And I'm loving mine shorter than it's ever been too.
