No more pigtails

My daughter gave herself a haircut today. I wanted to cry. The one good thing is that it's now too short for her to twist locks up under (and into--ugh!) her nose while sucking her thumb. The photos are under the cut. Or you can just go to the gallery which also has dance photos and Ben with his haircut.

She's got a summer cut! Looks kinda pixielike. You did a good job.

And it'll grow back thicker and more substantial than it was pre-cut. Even mine did when I got it cut as a kid, and she's got your genes. So, there's some good.

She is indeed cute. I'm just bummed...and hoping you're right that it'll grow better and thicker. After all, the hair she chopped was FIVE YEARS of growth.

And it's Ben who's really got my hair. :-)

It will. Think of it as giving the shorter hair time to catch up to the longer hair. Strength in numbers, all good. You avoid the wispy-end syndrome, which can cause excessive tangling eventually, too.

And...agreed, but she's got the genes in there somewhere.

I love the short haircut! I think it's adorable on her. Of course, she's adorable anyway!

*hugs Amy*

I had Sam in mind the whole time I was cutting her hair, reminding myself that short and blonde can be cute. And, like Husband pointed out, the Hayley Mills thing works for her.

Yes, quite Elfish. Still cute as a button.

Indeed. She certainly is.

And it was nice to have an excuse to cut my hair without panic from the kids. I will miss the newly-acquired ability to play with her hair though (even if I didn't do it often).

Silly comment of me to notice but with the slightly elongated incisor upper teeth (mine are darned near ground down over the years), and with the white powder they were playing with, almost looks little vampirish like (flashing back to FK's Urs.)

But on the same note, I think it's rather cute. My sister when she was about Elf's age cut her bangs on a diagonal so at one end it was a few inches long, whilst on the other side it was about 3/4-1" long. I think she did it on a dare from our brother. Needless to say Mom kinda freaked at first.

Yeah...it's a common behavior. And, yes, my kids and I do have VERY sharp canines. Very. I wa sa mean mommy and gave her a mirror to hold so she could watch the entire haircut. She did...and just cried the whole time.

I'm just sad that I can't play with her hair anymore (although I did it rarely), since it had only JUST gotten this long after FIVE YEARS and I'd not been able to do it long.

Just about every girl goes through the self-hair-cutting phase. She could have done a worse job, and the resulting short haircut is rather cute on her. I think it brings out her eyes.

Very true...but look how cute the pigtails were for the short period we could do them....
