I finished Catcher in the Rye. I can see why people empathize with Holden, but I think it's more that such people play out their iconoclastic and emo fantasies *through* him, rather than really empathizing *with* him. Ashland was quite lovely, though the plays weren't as utterly transporting as Bourne's Swan Lake. Sometimes I have the feeling that I enjoy the plays partly because I want to enjoy them so much, or else I just get vibes that few others do.
